Is the Vermilion Bay end of Eagle lake a good area? Mostly concerned with Pike but would do some Muskie trolling as well I suppose.

I should add i'm thinking about September.

Thank you.

Eagle is a NW to SE system that begins with clear trout water in the West Arm and finishes with dark-stained water in Osbourne Bay. Vermillion Bay has plenty of pike spots among the best right by the launch in town across that entire stretch. My best pike while musky fishing is 40" but didn't target them. Some of the reefs are market with jugs and it's easy to navigate.

I haven't been there in about 5 years so hopefully some more folks will chime in ... I guess if i were making a pike trip, I'd consider many of the smaller lakes in the area vs. Eagle.

Vermillion Bay is still pretty clean water with the typical spawning bays, rock points, reefs etc... Waldoff Bay is right there and really a part of it all as far as the open basin goes. From Vermillion Bay to the souther gateway isn't a long drive which gets you to some transitional water and opening to Portage Bay which is also trout water ... below the match-line you should be prepared and able to navigate well and hold some of the best fishing on the lake.

Overall it's a great destination ... don't forget the smallies ... i always did and regret it.

Good Luck ...

If you go to the mid-section of Eagle in September, the bigger Pike will move up in the shallow weeds. Like 2' from the shore in some places. The cloudier the day, the more pike show up it seems.

Although targeting musky, 2 years ago I caught 3 Northerns, 40" or better, all off rocks near weeds around the big basin on the east end in September. A boat in our group also did really well with 6" grandmas in in the Stanton Bay Area.

vermillion bay has enormous weed beds in it that are reasonably easy to spot. They hold fish. That whole bay and everything south of it is fertile water. Lots of muskies over there.
