Location: Eagan, MN | I'm hoping you could share with us your current rod/reel/line choices for the specific baits you throw. I am mostly interested in hearing what you use to cast those 10" Believers, Suicks and Jakes, but also would like to know what you use for bucktails and smaller baits. You could reply either here or in the "rod/reel complement" thread above. Thanks, and good luck w/ the rest of your season.

Location: Warroad, Mn | Hi: Sorry I'm a little slow in answering this. Anyway, right now I'm throwing Suicks, Believers, Jakes, Bulldogs (big stuff) with an 8'-0" Diamondback heavy action rod from Throne brothers. I also use a 7'-6" Sage (569 blank) from Throne brothers that I got a number of year ago (great blank that's not make any more). Either one does a great job with big lures. I'm using Garcia 7000's on the rods. Same thing with smaller stuff, I have a 7'-6" Diamondback in a bucktail action that is great. Also use a St Croix 8'-0" Tidemaster saltwater rod a lot model # TC80XHXF, this a great small bucktail rod, and a fine fall trolling rod. Hope this doesn't sound like a commercial, but I'd recommend to anyone who wants to spend the bucks to go to the guys at Thorne Brothers, they can and will build you a rod that will do exactly what you want it to do. For line I'm now using Spiderwire "Stelth" which I guess is Berkleys newest super braid. I'm using it in 100LB test (wouldn't go any lighter, it's very fine), and so far I'm pretty impressed. Casts great, doesn't seem to backlash much, does not fray (put it on my bucktail rod in July and haven't retied yet), doesn't seems to hold water. So far great line. Put it on my trolling reels, so we'll see how it stands up to trolling. Doug Johnson
