| I am looking for a new reel for my old rod I used for musky fishing. I musky fish just a couple weeks out of the year, so this rod is used bass fishing back home. However, after using blades with my old reel, it has become burnt out. I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions for higher gear ratio reels that would be good for bass and pike fishing with smaller bucktails. I would also use this rod for glide and twitch baits. Any suggestions that can meet those three species? Price range would be nice under $100 but any suggestions welcome. |

| I do not. I have a brand new rod and reel for those. I’m just looking for a higher gear ratio reel that can handle using glide and twitch baits for Muskie, but also can be used for bass fishing and pike fishing with smaller baits. |

| there is a used tekota 600 at ebay right now.it will last many years. at 105$ it's fairly cheap.maybe you will need to instal the sear to auto engage it.it's not hard to install ............. |

Location: Illinois | I have used an Abu Garcia Ambassadeur STX for bass and pike a couple years. It has held up well! It could be used for small musky lures, such as single blades and small crankbaits. It retails for ninety-nine dollars. I have also heard good things about the Abu Garcia MaxToro which is one-hundred eight on amazon and would probably be better than an STX. |

Location: NorthCentral WI | Abu Garcia C3 or C4 would fit your requirements fine; just don't abuse it. I used a C4 for gliders and small twitch baits for years without issue at around $120 new. |

Location: Hayward, WI | If you want something for double duty the Tekota 600 is probably not what you want.
Not sure what's out there for higher ratios in the 100 dollar range but my Dad has a Shimano Corvalus that has worked well for smaller baits for several years now. The Abu Maxtoro could be worth a look as well. A really nice reel would be a Revo Toro S in the 50 size. More than 100 bucks but you might be able to find one for 150 or 160 if you look for sales, use an Ebay code, etc. |

Location: oswego, il | It sounds like you need a reel for a heavy bass rod? Tell us what the rod is, brand, name, length and weight. Perhaps a shimano corvelous 300. You can also look for used reels like a shimano calcutta 200 which is a small reel that would handle small musky baits. |

| yes curley tail is half right it's too slow for baits that have to be jerked or pulled. but it's perfect for big blades,top water, and big paddle tail you will not find a real more durable than that.at least at that value. |

Ok, good so this rod handles baits up to 1oz. I would pair it up with a shimano 300 cardiff of a 5600 series garcia. I seen both on a discount tackle website under your price range. Spool it up with 65lb braid. This is a bass rod so overkill with a big reel with heavy line is unnecessary. |

A 16 oz reel that's going on a rod primarily used for bass fishing with occasional use with light, low drag musky baits seems like overkill to me. |
