Location: Pelican Lake/Three Lakes Chain | If you are going to fish under the extreme cold conditions stay away from graphite rods. They will shatter on hooksets. Last year I had to land a 40 incher on a rod that shattered in about 6 pieces. I only had one eye left on the rod and a bunch of shrapenal hanging on my line. A 4o incehr fights alot different on a 2.5' rod.
If you hang on until ice up go with glass rods.

| I've used 7'XH in the St. Croix Pro Glass line with excellent results for 5-6 years.Last year I picked up an 8' Classic Cat and it is an AWESOME sucker rod.Beef in this rod rips the rig free every time. Couple the rod w/ a 7000 or a Diawa SG47LC and you're damn near bullet proof!Where's the meat!!!!I love livebait fishing in the fall.There's a lot more to it than dragging suckers behind the boat. Location: Bagley,MN 56621 | ditto on the St.Croix Classic cats. note......the tips are a little softer than a premier graphite, i.e i think if you want equivelant backbone like a PM-MH, you need to use a H in the classic cat. |

Location: Stevens Point, Wi. | Being the frugal type(my wife calls me cheap), I picked up 2 Quantum classic cat rods about 5 years ago for about $25 each. They are a lot heavier than most, making them fairly worthless for casting, but they work great as sucker rods. Tough as nails and a ton of backbone for driving those hooks home. Definitely go all glass if you intead on fishing in extremely cold weather. I shattered a graphite St. Croix a while back in 30 degree weather. It sounded like a gun shot on the hook set, but made for a real interesting battle, which the fish won... |

Had a nice conversation with the St. Croix Illinois Rep and the Classic Cat rods are now history. If you find 'em, buy 'em cause they won't last long!

Location: Orland Park | Yes, Tuffy, I do. It's been on close to 20 trips in November......probably somewhere around 20 hooksets, and never a problem.
Many of these came in 30 degree weather. |

| From things that were said while I was with the company, was that they did not sell that well. Actually, sold more to musky fanatics than to Catfishermen. I checked over my copy of the 2004 catalog and they are indeed bye-bye. St. Croix kept 2 Glass Bass crankbait and 1 trolling rod (Salmon and wallye oriented).
