Posts: 32890 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | muskidiem - 4/6/2018 1:07 PM Steve, in your wisdom and experience, what are your thoughts for ski opener conditions up there? I see next weekend is mid 30's with snow. Opener will be late for general, or really close, and the Muskie opener may be a week or so behind with water temps and weed growth as a result. None of this will affet the spawn much.

Posts: 770 | If we are 2-3 weeks behind where we should be you think water temps will only be a week behind in June?

I think it is hard to predict how things will shake out for the northern opener in WI. A few years back many of the lakes in the far northern counties of WI had ice on them for the general opener, but then it warmed up and at least on the dark stained lakes like where I live, things got back to normal fairly quickly. For whatever reason, I often see musky staging for the spawn next to my dock. Always on the side that gets sun in the morning and in almost exactly the same spot. They were in there about the same time as other years when the ice went out much earlier. Hope they come back this year. Fun to look down and see a good sized musky right at your feet. And for the record the area they come to is shallow, sandy and no real cover or features that I can see.

Posts: 2515 Location: Waukesha & Land O Lakes, WI | Land O Lakes isn't going to be ice free for a while. 24-25 solid inches with another 5" of snow and hard pack on top of that, I needed an extension last weekend in spots. Posts: 2515 Location: Waukesha & Land O Lakes, WI | 14ledo81 - 4/11/2018 9:31 AM How do you like those tracks for the 4 wheeler? Wouldn't leave home without them. I ride roughly 4-7 miles from my place, down logging roads, backroads and lakes from my place to the Cisco Chain. The tracks have saved my keester many times. Posts: 4269 Location: Ashland WI | I like the ride of a four wheeler much better than a snowmobile. I have thought the wheeler with tracks would be the way to go for ice fishing, but have never actually seen them in person.

Posts: 427 | I went back and Read an article in Musky Hunter about fishing a Bulldog with a bobber. Looks like I may have to try it. Can't get much drift in a hole in the ice though.

Posts: 833 | You never know, we could have two weeks in the 80s in May. I agree it probably isn't LIKELY, but neither is the weather we've had so far in April. The weather we had last Friday was between three and four standard deviations outside of what is considered statistically normal in the Twin Cities, according to NOAA. That isn't exactly a common occurrence...

Looking out at the lake in front of my house here in Oneida County, the lake looks like it has 3ft high white waves caused by the high winds and snow. Tried to take photo but with everything white you can't really see the "waves". It was in the teens when I got up this morning, can't imagine the ice will be gone for the opener (non-musky).

So far there have been three reports of roof collapses in the Green Bay area. Fortunately no one was hurt, including at a motel where the roof over the pool collapsed. It was early and no one was in the pool.
