Posts: 63 | Morning- I just bought a Shimano Tranx 400 AHG and I can't seem to tighten the star drag enough to not be able to pull line off the reel. It does tighten some and it seemed to work OK when I reeled in a 20 pounder last weekend. I have the same exact thing happening on my Abu Garcia Ambassedeur 400 Round reel. Line is Sea Breeze 80 lb braid. Thanks in advance for any advice. -Tenthousand1

Posts: 256 Location: plant earth | Usually if you put just braided line on a bare spool it will start to slip sooner or later. Do you have some type of backer line say mono. You will need that for a base or the braided line will spin on the spoon. Possible it didnt move until u got the line on the spool wet. There are others on here that use other methods they all work well.

Posts: 409 Location: Almond, WI | Another issue with new reels is often the factory over-lubes them before they send them out and occasionally some oil will get into the drag washers which will cause slippage.

Posts: 1084 Location: Aurora | Don't git me started on new reels.. Over-lubed, under-lubed or worse, that sticky long term storage-type grease they use. That's why they all go to Pikemaster right off the shelf cuz you don't git second chances with new bearings. $25 bucks and viola', no drag slippage, no worries, and he knows which plastic bushings should be replaced with ball bearings, how to get more drag from some reels with a slightly thicker washer, deep sonic cleaning, and the best lubes. Pimp & Polish baby.. Oh yeah Attachments ---------------- Drag.jpg (92KB - 410 downloads)
