Looking to get a few small crankbaits in the 6” or smaller range. Have considered Jakes and grandmas. What are some good small crankbaits? Would be interested in mostly shallow divers but also mid range divers.

Pointer minnow 128, 7" bagley B. Zams are excellent as are small cranes.

So I just ordered a few crankbaits. Got a couple slammers, a depth raider, a Jake and a grandma. Looking forward to the slammers, they look sweet. Couldn’t help myself got the Jake and grandma in the 6”. And the depthraider in the 6” sucker pattern, think it might be good for a lake I fish that has lots of pikeminnow.

Diawa Salt Pro minnows and Live Target Sucker Stick Baits.

Nice thing is that both these lures also have weight transfer systems which really helps with casting distance.

I will not dispute that small cranks can be very effective. I fish alone a good bit of the time and after a few difficult releases early in my muskie career where a large fish had inhaled a bait I made a decision to only use lures that were unlikely to be totally engulfed.

Not sure where you fish, but here on Lake St. Clair, a 6" solid body Ziggies bait is hard to beat. Casting or trolling, they "wonder" as much as a Headlock. Top notch quality and color pattern choices..... By far, my favorite non-rubber or bucktail bait I have in my box.

I fish in Washington state. We have 7 lakes stocked with Tiger Muskie, two are within 30 minutes or less. And the lake that the state record fish came out of is 2 hours away, I make trips up there as much as possible.

The list put out by everyone else covers a lot of the go too baits.
I have to mention Johnston lures. Their toothaches are great little baits.
The other one that I'm surprised didn't come up was tuff shads.
Both Great!

My favorite small cranks for casting and trolling are the Rippin, Shads made by Fish-All Lures. Used to be Mike King's company but he sold to someone else. He didn't just dump it, he taught the new owners everything that he learned in his decades of making wire thru lures. They have a web site. If you want small cranks, I think that these are the best around.

X2 for the Diawa salt pro minnows. Only $10.00 each. Great for the 1' to 3' range plus floating or slow sink available. Cast a mile!

My son and I purchased Fishall-Lures from Mike King a year ago. We'll be at the Milwaukee show this weekend. Team Rhino Outdoors is carrying a few colors of the Rippin Shad. You can also check them out on our website.

Since I throw small cranks mostly in spring, I like suspending models that match the fish’s mood in that cooler water period. Check out the jointed shad Rapala X-Rap. My favorite color is perch. It will work down to about 6 feet but you can up-twitch it to keep it shallower.

Yep the x rap jointed shad is what I caught my only two muskies on last year. Lost a nice one at the boat on one also. Very confident in that Lure.

A group of cranks I've had a lot of success with on tigers and purebreds are Cordell Redfins. The 7" and the size just below it, plus the largest jointed have all produced fish for me. Change the hooks on the 7" to something besides the cad. plated that comes on the lure. On the next size down, remove the center hook and put heavier duty hooks 1 size larger than the stock on the other two. I usually upsize by one on the jointed. The main weakness on redfins is they were designed for stripers and bass so mid 40's and larger tigers and trues can sometimes poke holes in the bait turning them into sinkers. The chrome plating also will flake off from repeated attacks from fish. I always twitch these baits, when I fish them and have caught well over 100 muskies and tigers combined on these lures. They are usually the first bait I try when fishing new waters.
