Hey guys,
I've decided to give muskie fishing a go. A bargain store in town got a bunch of fishing rods and I snagged a $100 lamiglas rod for <$20. I'm intending to use it for muskies, and am wondering what baits it is suited for.

Lamiglas X-11 Extra Heavy

15-40lb test line
1-4 oz lure rating

Sounds like a good deal. What action does the rod have?

From lamiglas website and from what I found the x-11 rods are designed for salmon fishing. Doesn't mean it couldn't be use for muskies.

4oz is typically enough for alot of musky lures. Not being a musky rod though it is hard to say what the action is. You will find out once you test it. At 20 bucks, you are not out much money.

I wouldn't exceed 1.5-2 oz with it. It really isn't designed for esox. It's going to be light in the 8 and have a tendency to fail on the hook set if they have a short leash and tight drag.

But like Todd said, $20 is worth a try.

I'm pretty sure its fast action - its pretty stout. Not whippy like a lot of steelhead. I think its meant more for a trolling rod maybe. But like you guys pointed out, at $20 it's good to get me started. I was just wondering what rod length people prefer. Ive seen some people say they like 9-10' rods, but other like the 7-8'. Will longer rods help with figure 8s and things at the boat?

The short answer is yes.
