Location: Warroad, Mn | It's been a pretty good year so far on the Woods. Lots of numbers, but perhaps not quite the number percentage wise of big fish that I've seen in the past. Still catching a fair number of fish (out for a few hours yesterday with Dave Frandwich, owner of Angle Outpost) and caught two nice fish, and had chances at a couple more. In general the water in the Angle area is still pretty clear, and at this late date I don't expect much more of an algae bloom. Overall there has been lots of nice fish caught. As far as the fall bite about the only thing I know for sure is that the tullibees will come to shore to spawn, and the muskies will come to shore to eat them. Fall trolling will probably be a challenge as the water levels are a couple feet lower than normal, and four feet lower than the last couple of years. I was out doing a little practice trolling today (I'm on vacation), and I found that some of the spots that I usually troll are pretty shallow. Think I'll order another prop for the 15. Once the water starts to cool into the 50's (surface temps today where 67-68 degrees) things should follow there usual path. I expect to do pretty well this fall with the cleaner water. Doug Johnson |
