Posts: 77 Location: Southwest Pa | Looking to replace some hooks on my beat up sledges. Does anyone know the size and manufacturer of the hooks on the 9" sledge? Not looking to throw the action off As I've played with them extensively to tune them. Also- (here we go again I know) but what's everyone's take on T-ing the hooks on jerkbaits? I T-Ed the hooks on some jerkbaits and feel like my hookup percentage took a big hit. Any opinions? Thanks in advance dudes!

Posts: 866 Location: NE Ohio | the old shutt 9" sledges used mustads.........3551 5/0 in the front, 35656BR 3/0 middle and back. the new sledgehammers 9" sledges use a much heavier hook but i don't own any so not sure of the hook sizes, it might say on the website. i don't T my hooks and don't have a problem with hookups, and don't mind the hook rash. if i buy a bait with the belly hook T'd i leave it be.

Posts: 77 Location: Southwest Pa | I have a feeling I'm done T-ing my hooks! I don't mind hook rash and have never been a believer in colors. So if the hooks wear all the paint off all of my baits at least they will be the same color. Right???

when that fashion start something like 15 years ago everyone was so happy to save their lures from hook rash but since couple of years i stop doing it ,just a quick look at what the treble look like once ted and it's obvious it can't be good for hookup % it's just physic.the points are way to close to each others,it's like the guy that have the choice to walk on a nail or on a nails carpet... i think mustad 3551 7/0 is what you looking for

Posts: 77 Location: Southwest Pa | I have check their websites along with having a bud post the asking specs on hooks on Facebook. (I'm not on Facebook). I'm sure if I ordered a variety of hooks I could at least narrow it down but I figured I'd ask here before I went that route.

Posts: 330 Location: In the slop! | pklingen has the right information for what came on the originals. On the ones 'I' fish with I put 5/0 Eagle Claw 774s on the front two hooks and a 3/0 774 on the tail. Never hurt the action at all, better hooks, better hooking.

You still have the same amount of hookpoints to exert the pressure on, so the physics haven't changed. The nail carpet is possible to walk on because you apply the force on several nails. Eg. 20 nails instead of one, which decrease the force applied to each point to 1/20.(if you have flat feet) I guess there could be a tiny difference if all 3 points where close together with the shank touching each other, as the deformation of the penetration point might be concentrated, but as long as there is just a couple of mm between the points this should not effect the force required to reach penetration. This is not to bash anyone, i think this i really interesting and would also love to here everyone's experience. As i am truly confident that T-ing the hooks have increased my hookup ratio, mainly on Suicks, but also on crankbaits and gliders Cheers

Posts: 77 Location: Southwest Pa | I'm loosing more fish with them being T-ed. This is especially true with this bait I mean they crush these things on the pause and ever since I T-ed them (due to a buds recommendation) they can shake em off easier I believe. Debate aside- I know there are 2 different size hooks on the 9" is 5/0-3/0 the size? Looking to go gamakatsu route with the upgrade. Also, had a bud just nail a big girl on a dadson so it's probably the skulls guys I'm thinking.....
