Posts: 2 | I have had a weird thing happen when casting the Lexa. About 4 different times the line loops around my thumb causing the bait (rubber) to stop immediately. Obviously causing the line to cut into my thumb, not a good thing. I am not a newbie and own many other brands. Wondering if it because of the level wind not following out the cast. I do have the magnets basically turned off (don't need)? I either need to get this figured out or sell the reel. Anyone else see this?

Posts: 494 Location: midwest | I ONLY have had this happen on the Lexa 400. I sold mine after having this issue multiple times on my Lexa. I got cut pretty good when a loop grabbed my thumb when throwing a pounder. The loop cinched down enough to cause a purple stripe in the thumbnail as well as the cut around 3/4 of the thumb. I have never had this issue on a Tranx, TE, Toro ect. only the Lexa for some reason.

Posts: 251 | Happens with over casting or not letting your rod load and do the work. It happens to me when I try to cast a bait harder then needed. When the bait hits the arc in cast the spool is spinning faster than the bait is moving. I could be completely wrong with this but that is what I have found.

Posts: 1084 Location: Aurora | Happens on disengaging level wind reels running heavier than recommended lines. If you press the cast release and the line guide is all the way to one side of the spool, that's where it will stay. When you launch, it races out full speed until the line starts across the other side of the spool and begins to cut in against the grain. The spool has momentum so it keeps going and line starts to raise up in loops a bit until it crosses over again to where the line guide is. Your well-educated hovering thumb catches a loop and pays the price. This dramatic angle across the spool also creates large spikes of drag that cut down on casting distance and frays the first 40-50 feet of braid in short order. Most of the disengaging level wind reels were designed for lighter line, not the 80-100lb braids. Best way to reduce it is to make sure the line guide is close to center before every cast. Best way to eliminate it is to pick up a non-disengaging level wind reel.
