| 1986, a few years after they started stocking tigers on Silver Lake in Kenosha County. We used to camp at the Marina on weekends. It was about 2:00 am, casting a Rebel Crayfish. Shallow water, maybe 3'-0". They had just installed one of those big orange halogen lights on the pier, so you could basically sight fish at night. I had caught a few walleyes when I saw this shape. "Holy crap, what IS that??" Biggest fish I had ever seen on that lake. My guess is it was all of 28". Saw the fish, threw a cast past it, and it turned around and whacked my lure. One heck of a fight on ultralight spinning gear. Got it up to shore a few times, got a look at it with a flashlight before it broke my line. I went and woke my parents up in the middle of the night to tell them I lost a muskie. They must have thought I was high as a kite. Come to think of it, there's a good chance they were right.... |
