Posts: 859 Location: MN | Does anyone have a Thorne Bros Predator H? Looking for some feedback. I want to get a little lighter rod then the Big Nasty for tossing Showgirl size bucktails and small and maybe a little Top water as well. I'm looking at that or the Sling blade as an option as well.

Posts: 7090 Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | I have a 8'10" built on a Heavy Predator, but not built by Thornes. My thoughts are that its a great rod for topwaters, small bucktails (up to 8s, maybe 9s if you dont mind a bit more flex than you might desire), small jerkbaits (6-7") and small to medium plastics. Probably a good fit for what you're looking for. Have mine paired with a Tranx 400A and for what it's good for, it's a great combo.

Posts: 293 | I have a 9'6" -1...the first thing I will say is that if you're looking for something slightly lighter than a Big Nasty then what I have is not that rod. It does handle the baits you've stated above very well thou as far as casting, and figure 8's. If you start getting into the heavier bladed bucktails like spanky 8's I'm just not a fan of the way the softer action loads up in the 8.

Posts: 233 | I have acouple 9' thorne Bros Predator rods which handle 8s, 9s and 10s. I think they are too much rod for Showgirls, and other smaller baits. It will throw topwater baits , but I believe a lighter medium action rod is a better choice.

Posts: 2 | I have a 9'6" XH for anything bigger than showgirls and a 9' H with 2 inches taken off the tip. Great rod for small bucktails and topwaters.

Posts: 28 | I have a 9'5''-1 and a 9'4''-2. The 9'5'' is great for blades up to mag 8s and is an awesome topwater rod. I have thrown 10s with it, but the tip will break down a little bit in the 8 if you add any speed. The 9'4'' will handle blades up to 10s, as it doesn't break down near as much in the 8. I also throw bigger topwaters with it. If you are looking to not go any bigger than showgirls, I think a H with an inch off the tip would be a good rod. You can always start there and get another inch trimmed off if you want, as well.

Posts: 755 | I have 2 of them... One stock 9 footer and one that had two inches cut off the tip and then I added 6 inches on the rear. From 2009-2013 the 9 Footer with a 14 Trinidad was my go to rod for all buck tails up to 10's. Yes it is soft in the tip for 10's but it did not bother me. I have over 100 fish on that rod so it did not seem to hamper my success. I won a charity auction after Hammernick's house burnt down a few years back and had the 9'4 (2 off the tip) made. It handles most of my buck tail duties these days for 10's and 13's. I use the Stock 9 footer for Jr CG sized lures and a few other things. I still use the the 9 footer paired with a Conquest for slow rolling 10's at night.... still catches fish and yes is still a little soft in the 8 ![]()
