Posts: 489 | Has anyone used optima blue tops for a starting battery? I was thinking about the D27M which has 800cca and 1000mca for starting my 200 optimax. Will I have any issues?

Posts: 489 | Okay , the 27 has those specs but is dual purpose... does this matter?

Posts: 328 Location: In the slop! | Yes it matters! Do not use a dual purpose for starting! When they put 'dual purpose' on a battery what it really should say is 'not good for anything'. Been down this road, boat wouldn't start, spun over but not fast enough to light (135 opti). Get a good starting battery.

Posts: 8788 | My experience with Die Hard (automotive only) Platinum and Gold Batteries: First one was in 3 different cars. Still going at 9 years old when I sold the car. Still held a charge with the car sitting for a month. #2 made it 7 years. #3 and #4 are still going strong after 5 and 7 years.

X3 You hear lots of stuff about different brand batteries no matter what they are. I would get the biggest you can that will fit in your boat. Ive had pretty good luck with Optima Blue Top 31's and they have lasted longer than other brand Ive used, including Sears Platinum/Odyssey which I would not recommend. Posts: 6 | I'm going to be replacing an Optima blue top today that was new 7/14 which doesn't seem right to me to only get 4 years out it and have heard from others that there quality went way down as soon as they started making them in mexico. I have a 225 mercury efi.
