Posts: 585 Location: Gaithersburg, Maryland | Last night, I was at the local lake and talked to a fellow and his (pretty) girlfriend. They had been out in a canoe fishing together. The canoe went over and they lost three brand new rods, etc. I've been in myself (several years ago) and started using rod "floaters" just in case. Since I've started using them, I've never dropped a rod overboard or "been in the drink." However, I know they will work. Thought I would mention them here. They are foam grips that attach to your rod blank (just ahead of the front cork grip) with velcro. Cheap at 3/$8.95 (approx.). You can get them from Cableas and (maybe) Bass Pro Shops catalogs. Anybody else here use them or some other method to keep their rods from being lost? Edited by muskiekid 8/17/2003 4:36 AM

Posts: 1137 Location: Holly, MI | My dad lost one overboard while we were on a plane going from one bay to another. Surprisingly it was still floating (barely) when we quickly turned back to get it. The foam at Home Depot for insulating home airconditioning lines is a buck for like 6 feet. It even has a split that can be opened up to put it over the rod. A little black tape and you are in business. $1 for 6 rods! They even have different sizes. Havent done it but have thought about it (obviously).

Posts: 585 Location: Gaithersburg, Maryland | Dave: good idea. Any luck with the new lure? Thanks - I put the same post on the Predator Forum for local guys in Maryland. I've taken the store-bought ones and tested them to see if they work. They do on all of my rods (even the ones with Daiwa Sealines on them) except for a couple of "Spoonplugging" (solid glass) rods that I have. The insulation idea is a good one and I'm sure it will work. All you need then is some velcro and you are in business!! Take care - Tom

Location: Athens, Ohio | Dropped my barse net overboard a couple weekends ago and never noticed until I reached for it and ????? Tooks some of that foamy pipe insulation and put it on my good net's handle and it floats it just fine. Looks wanky but who cares, at least i can find it in the water. m
