Hey guys,

I’m looking to verify if there is a major detour around the Bemidji area heading towards Baudette to cross the border as I’m heading to Lake of the Woods Friday night. I’ve heard a few people say it’s a 45 minute detour, but I haven’t seen or heard of any alternative route to take, as I’ll be coming from MN metro.

Any information would be great

Yes there is a detour, it is about 50 min, 23 miles each way, and watch out for the dear, we had to slow many times as there was a lot. On the way home
we crossed in baudette then took 11 down to 2 to 53 and took that route home.
It was a smooth ride back to Illinois.

If you take 46 up... there is a detour because of bridge reconstruction in Squaw Lake... we just accessed the phones and ended up with about a 15 mile detour. we chose to take 46 to 34 to 126th (126th was 6 miles of dirt road, but we just took it slow) a left off of 126th at the end of the dirt, and that brought us back to 46 about 9 miles S. of Northome. Not terrible. Baudette (Main St.) is completely torn apart, but that detour was simple and well marked.

Just got back from baudette yesterday. If you’re planning on going from walker to Bemidji to black duck, I would instead recommend taking 371 from walker to highway 2 then go east and take the scenic highway on the east side of cass lake up to black duck. That’s the rout we took with no construction. And yes, as mentioned above, main street and the bridge in Baudette is closed.

Musky Friends, The best way to Baudette from the South is as follows. Hwy 46 is closed. I found the following route to save time and about the same milage:

Take Minn. 6 North out of Deer River to Itaska Cty 4 NW to Itaska Cty 29 to Hwy 46. This route worked for me and saves time.

Just did this trip. Take 6 north out of Deer River. Take to 1. 1 to 46, back on track.

Has anyone driven thru Virginia, MN, lately? Wondering what the construction/detour situation is like with them moving the highway around the mine.

I was in Virginia on July 17th and there was some one lane but no congestion. But that was a rainy Sunday afternoon.

Just came through Virginia on Sat Aug 6th. No reroute on the detour--just a stretch of slower 1 lane overall not too bad.

Heading to the Angle in a few weeks. Just curious if there are any detours or construction from Superior/Duluth to Warroad. Thanks!
