For those of you that troll top water baits, especially prop style baits and globe style baits, where is your rod tip in the grand scheme of things? Up, down, or somewhere in between? This will be my first attempt at this technique and I'm trying to cut my learning curve being an absolute newb to any type of trolling.

experiment with amount of line out and angle ever lure gonna be a little different but I would think fairly parallel to the water or hair down or hair up considering you want it on top running flat...

Location: MN | I have been thinking about doing this for the last couple years. For the guys who have done it, do you use boards or just long line it? Do you have decent hook up percentage? |

I would think hook up would be much higher percentage trolling them casting with top water due to fact you can set hook too early on site like casting..

My best success trolling top waters has been off boards. Few places I do this there can be flaoting weeds so the boards in addition to weed guards help keep the baits running well. Long lining top waters with rods at an angle of 30-45 degrees where there is no floating weeds or stuff has worked for me, I found that if too much line dragging in the water if the rod is downward or horizontal can make the nose of the bait catch too much water.
