Posts: 272 | Howdy, Well I finally got to handle the new Tranx 400A and 300A. My take is that they are very nice reels with some great features. I do think that there are a few things from a fit and finish standpoint that reflect the made in Malaysia vs made in Japan price point (paint blemishes for example), but I certainly wouldn't kick them out of bed for eating crackers. That said, how does this reel compare to the Calcutta Conquest 400? On paper it is the exact same gear ratio. If you had the same handle (the Tranx 400 handle is longer) would their performance be the same for torque and performance? Again, I'm talking about the 400A only. Also, for those who have used both (I have not) what other advantages/disadvantages exist between the two aside from price, which is substantial. Take care, Ruddiger

Location: Contrarian Island | I have a conquest 400. nice reel, very smooth, but the 'guts' of it from what I'm told by the guy at Daves Reel service that cleans/ services it, is not really made for musky... some plastic parts etc... I had a tranx 400 for a short time, never casted it, but to me the gears in the 400 are made for more abuse than the conquest.. beefier and that is just easy to see looking at the reels. I got my conquest for about 420 new on Ebay.. for 280 to me the tranx is a no brainer versus the conquest.

Take care, Ruddiger Guess I was not the only one wondering the same exact thing. I went ahead and bout the Tranx 400AHG mind you and haven't regretted it. I have been wanting to try out the conquest very bad since I am a very big fan of the 400 TE series the discontinued on us!

If you could find the older style ConQuest that you can use for any Musky Bait. I got like 6 of them, I'm taking them to my Grave. I stock parts for both the newer and older ConQuests.

Howdy, So, recognizing the limitations of the newer Conquests, do the newer Tranx 400A reels have the same limitations as the new Conquests? Or, are the new Tranx 400A beefier reels that are similar to the older Conquests (which I have never seen)? Take care, Ruddiger

Take care, Ruddiger I have Fished both the 300 and 400 Tranx, I really like theses reels, best reel for the the Money. Plus I have torn down one and I'm very impressed with all the new Technology that is being used on these reels for the price point. Don't worry where they are made at or let Malaysia stop you from buying the new 300 and 400 TRANX that manufacturing facility is using cutting edge technology to produce these reels. Big thumbs up to Shimano for manufacturing the 300 and 400 Tranx in the new Malaysia factory. It's a win-win for the consumer, you get cutting edge technology for affordable pricing.
