Posts: 833 | After 8 seasons, my trusty pair Smith Chambers are ready to retire. I'm looking for premium sun glasses for days with high sun / glare. What do you all recommend? Just as an FYI, I have a low light / overcast pair with yellow lens. Those are still in top shape. This pair will be for blue bird type days.

Posts: 833 | Do you guys have a preference on glass vs. plastic? I've had plastic in the past and had no issues.

Posts: 20218 Location: oswego, il | Some people find the glass to heavy for their face. I have a green mirror amber lense costa del mar fathom, i recommend them. I have another pair of fathoms i put 30% amber/rose fuse plastic lenses in. They are feather light, so much so i have had strong gusts of wind blow them right off my head. The fuse lenses are great.

Posts: 8781 | BNelson - 4/17/2017 9:19 AM costa del mar, blue mirror lense are great. Going on 14 years with the same pair. A bit too dark for sunset/sunrise/cloudy days, but for bluebird days they are great. No problem with the glass lenses as it relates to weight. Love 'em out on the gulf.

Posts: 2325 Location: Chisholm, MN | I prefer the Copper lens in my costa's. They are plastic, and have a couple scratches. Maybe glass would be better. I don't know.

Posts: 41 Location: Rochester, MN | I have a pair of silver mirror glass Costas. Had to send them in twice last summer because the lenses cracked after wearing them for a day each time. Return process was painful and lengthy as i went on 2 trips before they were repaired and returned. I wont by glass again.

Posts: 265 Location: Manitowish Waters WI | I love my Costa Blackfins with the green polycarbonate lenses. I also love my Oakley Turbines with the shallow water angler specific lenses (green). They are great for the lowlight and overcast days. Im going to try the Oakley deep water lenses this year (blue).

Posts: 841 Location: Southwest PA | The Oakley deep water lenses are incredible and if you can swing it, get the nanoclear hydrophobic lens cleaner to go with it. It's this cleaner that comes in a marker applicator and resists water. I have worn mine out during rain and had them fall in a stream while fly fishing and it's crazy how much the stuff repels whatever has came into contact with the lenses. I have not went into a kitchen hood with them yet so I don't know if they would withstand kitchen grease... I'll have to throw the stuff on my work glasses to see

Posts: 6 | Oakley lenses have a distortion level, IE, fishbowl effect I cannot hack...I will submit I have endured migraine headaches my entire life and that could make me biased towards them...they might work great for most people...as far as glass vs. poly lenses...glass lenses are the bees knees...but while I'm willing to have a sore shoulder and stiff back, I'm not willing to lose my eyesight...glass lenses are not the choice for high octane activities...Imagine having a lure come back at your face and having glass in your eyes...not cool
