Alaska Salmon Poachers Busted … Twice

SOLDOTNA, AK—Wildlife officials in Soldotna, Alaska,
recently confiscated more than 250 salmon from a
group of New Yorkers and one Virginian after they
were filmed fishing without a license and exceeding
their legal limit of sockeyes from Alaska’s Kenai
River. The bust involved a two-day stakeout and help
from an anonymous tipster.

Amazingly, the same anglers were caught making the
same violations the next day.

Dog-Killing Catfish Found Dead

BERLIN, GERMANY—A giant catfish that once ate a
small dog and terrorized a German lake for years has
washed up dead.

A gardener discovered the carcass of a catfish
locals had named “Kuno the Killer.” Kuno measured
five feet long and weighed 77 pounds, and became a
local celebrity in 2001 when he reportedly swallowed
a Dachshund puppy whole on Berlin’s Volksgarten Park
Lake. The fish then managed to evade repeated
attempts to capture him.

Officials say low waters and a summer heat wave
probably killed the catfish, which is among the
biggest ever found in Germany. The northern city of
Bremen plans to mount the fish for a museum display.
