| Ok I'm new to Muskie fishing and would like to ask a couple questions. I'm looking at the Bulldawg predator rod 8" heavy power, lure rating 3-15oz. Would this rod still cast a 3oz lure well? Another question is id be pairing it with the ambassador c3 6500 reel, will it work for regular bulldawgs and mid sized medusas? |

Location: Apparently where the Muskie aren't | With that rod you should be able to throw lures down to 1oz without any issue at all. Maybe even a little lighter with some practice. I don't know much about the reel (I would assume you would be fine) but a bunch of guys with more knowledgeable than me will chime in. |

| So what oz lures does the reel handle well then? |

| The C3 6500 is just fine. I've got a few that are nearing 20 years old, and they still perform great, even after several trips of abuse by rookies. I think it's a great starter reel for you.
I wouldn't worry too much about the lure oz when it comes to the reel. Drag in the water makes a bigger difference (such as big blades or big lip crankbaits), but that c3 can pull pretty good. The rod is going to care more about the oz, than the reel. |
