Posts: 11 | Been looking at getting a power gear reel for bigger blades and other high resistance baits, but only thing is it has to be a lefty. Seeing that the Tranx doesn't come in a lefty, that rules that out. Looked at the Revo Beast, wasn't quite sold on it, I feel like it's not worth $400 IMO. Maybe contemplating a Calcutta 401D or a conquest 401. What are some other good options if I'm forgetting any.

Posts: 132 | Beast 61 in 4.9:1 gears is a great reel for big blades. It's what I use for 12s and 13s and it's like butter. You can find them for much cheaper than $400.

Posts: 1100 | I would go with the 4.9:1 Beast, with the jigging handle in middle position

Posts: 261 | You americans are so lucky, in the EU, the toro beast is sold for more than 450 and in switzerland, the price goes up to 500+ Sorry for the rant. With that said, the toro beast is by far the best power gear lefty available today. Otherwise, you could eighter look for a toro winch, those shouldint be too expensive these days, or you could get a toro S and swap the gears with the 4.9 ratio

Posts: 11 | For those of you that have used the beast, have you had any problems with them? Do they hold up pretty well? Don't have to upgrade anything?

Posts: 670 Location: mercer wi | The Toro 60s was on by blade rod all last year and it's a solid reel. I did put a jig handle middle hole on it. Works great. Shop around and you can find a 61, which is the lefty, online. I personally didn't care for the beast.

Fishing in the fall I had some ice build up around the levelwind and something broke on the inside when cranking. My understanding is there are some plastic gears inside and that is likely what broke. Fairly tough situation for a reel, but in general I can't seem to get an Abu through a season without breaking. The beast seems sturdier than an NaCl at least.

Posts: 403 Location: WI | Maybe a Lexa HD, it is available in a left hand crank model

Posts: 15 Location: North Dakota | Unfortunately the 400 Lexa HD is only available with a 8.1:1 gear ratio in a lefty. He's not going to get much (or any) power out of that one.

Posts: 251 | If you're looking to burn blades and fish more than a few weekends a year, I would not get a beast. There will be people that will get offended/disagree but they are not worth the price tag and you will have to send it in for repairs at least once a season.

Posts: 64 | Try a Revo Toro S61. I set mine up with the jigging handle from my Beast (my big rubber reel). My Toro S is my go-to bucktail reel, and works awesome. Great reel for 8's, 9's, 10's, and 12's at an affordable price. 29 inches per turn. Can be found for around $200.

Posts: 55 Location: Coon Rapids, MN | I'm running a Toro S with the jig handle for my big blades as well. I ran 3 S's and a beast last year and had no issues.
