I would shoot Phantom an email and ask them. That is what I plan to do. They look pretty cool....

I bought one at the expo. They look sweet. They told me production would be limited to shows and if interest took off they may produce more.

I think I got one of the baits that you are talking about... I posted a pic on the Milwaukee Expo thread: http://muskie.outdoorsfirst.com/board/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=11...

From what I know neither is available at a retailer just yet. I got to run a prototype of both and they are very nice. If I ever get a chance to edit the video we ran an underwater camera of both baits. Team Rhino Outdoors will have them as soon as they let us order them.

My new issue of Musky Hunter magazine came yesterday. There's a full page ad in there for 3 new Phantom baits. A topwater, the dive rise, and the 3rd was the crankbait (I think coffin bill style). Sorry I don't have the magazine with me at work.

The dive rise bait is available in 10" only; the crankbait is 10 and 12" models.

I can post additional details about the ad when I get home.

I'm waiting on some video of the action, I think they heard that a lot at the expos this year.

I love my Phantoms...they are my go to glider....Many fish in my boat every year on them....That being said am I the only one that thinks they took all the 10 and 12 inch bodies that could not sell (they have been discontinued from production) and slapped lips on them to move the inventory?

Wait, wait, wait, WAIT! They don't make 10" phantoms anymore? That's one of my favorite fall baits!

I know they killed the 12. I thought the 10 was gone too as its not a big seller but I may be off on that one...

I use the 6" and the 10" I don't even bother with the 7.5" so I'll echo that I hope the 10" isn't gone!

As for the 10" Softtails- there's still plenty around. They're available all over the internet; MTO and Thorne Bros still stock them too. Solid fall bait.

Yeah I just got my copy of Musky hunter mag yesterday too and seen the ad it just makes me wonder another manufacturer trying to get into making $100 baits like a Headlock. Im sure everyone remembers when Musky Mayhem introduced the double cowgirl and so thereafter everybody started making similar baits. Trying to get on the action of a good bait that's selling a lot. Same thing is happing with different manufacturers making these Fat Basturd clones if you will topwater baits. They could be good or they just jumping on the bandwagon?

These dont look anything like a Headlock. Neither the shape or the lip are close. I don't think the ad mentions a price either. If I missed something mentioning the price, my apologies.

I would have to agree. They aren't going to be anything like a headlock. I haven't heard anything about the price yet and it didn't look like the add had a price (I could be wrong) but I wouldn't expect them to be over $50 for the 12" HEX. I would say they would be just a few dollars more than a regular phantom of the same size. I don't think they are trying to make a $100 bait. I think phantom is just trying do make a bait with a lip. They are trying something different and trying to expand their market. If it turns out to be a great bait, good for them, if it's a flop, oh well, they can go back to drawing board and try something new. Just my opinion but I defiantly won't be expecting a $100 bait.

I don't think this is the case because if they are making a dive and rise bait it would need to float and regular unwaited phantoms sink.

SMH. Can't argue with that logic. Given the author, I don't know why I'm surprised.

I didn't get your comment at first, Martin...took a few rereads, but I get it now. That's funny.

FWIW....I talked to the Phantom guys yesterday... They are unweighted versions of the 10 and 12 inch baits. So they are a little more positively buoyant than there glide bait cousins that are neutrally buoyant. They come out of the same molds... I forgot to ask about continued production of 12 inchers...
