| I have a 6501 that is having an issue. When i stop reeling the handle is able to turn backwards about 1/8 to 1/16 of a turn. This also happens when i twich a bait (spool pulls handle backwards) any idea what part needs to be replaced?

| The clutch/anti-reverse roller bearing. Try cleaning it first. It's mounted in the side plate; the crank axle goes through it.

| Also fairly easy to press it out and in with a couple sockets and a bench vise. Just have to make sure that the new one goes in the right orientation. |

| Im not sure what the problem is... i took it apart and its pretty dirty, ordered some grease so waiting for that to arrive before i do any more. When i had it apart i the anti reversebbearing was grabbing the sleve well and appeared to be.working propperly |

It doesn't take much to gunk up those little rollers to the point where they don't grab. Grease won't help much if it's all crudded up.
I use an aerosol product called "reel magic" to blast all the dirt out of there, then dry it with compressed air, and then add a few drops of oil. (not grease) Just don't wear a shirt you like if you're going with the compressed air option. Then just pull the handle and add a drop of oil every so often, especially if you're fishing in the rain a lot.
Not sure if that's the right way to do it or not, but I've only had to replace 1 AR bearing, and that was (I believe) from setting the hook with all my might. On a rock. |

| Ditto: NO GREASE, just a good silicone oil. Pay attention putting it back together, or you'll only be able to reel backwards if you insert it back in the side plate the wrong way around.

Location: Yahara River Chain | Sometimes they use grease on new reels, if too much oil is used you'd have the inside the box a complete oily mess. Many take new reels clean them prior to putting them in service. |

Make sure it don't soften the plastic roller, lots of lubes will.
Plus it has to be a very good Rust protection.

That is a good link!
I don't go that far unless I'm having a problem. A lot of that stuff can be cleaned and oiled while it's still assembled.
Here's my advice:
1. Take your time.
2. Line the parts up as you take them off, in the direction they were facing.
3. Take pictures with your phone as you go so you remember what it looked like assembled the right way
4. Use the reel schematic
5. Clean the parts in order and place them back in order
6. If its got teeth (i.e. it's a gear) grease it. Lightly.
7. If it's a bearing or it spins, oil it.
It looks a lot more difficult than it is. The first time I did none of the above. (this was before cell phones and digital cameras) Luckily for me I had two of the same reel, so all I had to do was take #2 apart when I got stuck to see where the parts went.
