Posts: 1516 | I was looking at another thread and started wondering how many rod and reel combos you all use in a day. I will typically have a combo for glide baits and one for spinner baits big & small and a combo for Mag Dogs and such. So I usually take three and maybe use two. What about you guys? Posts: 4343 Location: Smith Creek | Depends on the water and duration of the outing, but 1 rod and reel and 3-4 lures is usually good enough for an evening on local waters I'm familiar with.

Posts: 575 Location: Elk Grove Village, IL & Phillips, WI | Normally 5 or 6 different setups. Most of my lures are split ringed to the leader and don't get changed out during the day. I just switch to a different combo for the lure I want. I will change lures if there seems to be a color preference. Edited by KenK 2/15/2017 7:02 PM

LOL when I go to Canada I usually use 2 all day. An XXH and and XH and then I usually just use my XXH rod combo all day... I do have backups at the cabin but I like a stiffer rod for lures down to 6oz...

Posts: 112 Location: Illinois | 2-3. One is an older shorter jerkbait Rod,one for big blades and one for smaller baits. I need to add to the collection. I really really want a 9'+ combo.

Posts: 422 Location: MN | For casting, 1-3. Typically I have two longer rods rigged, one for shallow and one deep, and switch between as I cover different spots and different parts of a spot. I also have a shorter rod I use for jerkbaits or wtd topwaters that may also be rigged and is mostly used as a throwback. Sometimes I put a jigging bait on the shorter rod if I plan on covering some deeper stuff.

Posts: 393 | 5 combos total. One that is all purpose that can big baits like pounders and big bucktails. One that is bucktail specific - that can burn bucktails big to small. One for for top waters and smaller baits. One for WTD and jerk baits and one in reserve that is all purpose.

Posts: 167 Location: Tomahawk, WI | I keep three setups in the boat at all times. Id like to add a fourth dedicated to throwing Rubber with a high speed reel on it.

Posts: 1249 Location: Walker, MN | 2 casting and one trolling rod per person always seems reasonable, until you have 3 anglers. 9 muskie rods in a boat is a lot.

Posts: 785 | I fish with 2-4 (3 rods 90% of the time) and have one stashed where I'm staying as a backup. A lot of it depends on the time of year and what spectrum of presentation I anticipate having to cover.

Posts: 82 Location: deep in the slop | On my yearly Canada trip, 1 rod and 2 reels. 1 spare rod in storage. Use a LT big dawg for mag dawgs, dbl 10s, glide baits, top water, everything. Last year was the first time in 5 years we had to bust out the spare rod.

Posts: 45 | I have had up to 5-6 casting combos and 2 trolling rods. That's due to most of my friends not owning their own combos so we're well stocked when fishing 3 guys. When I jump in someone else's boat I typically bring two casting combos. One for light stuff one for heavy stuff.
