Stained water..over 12000 acres.. 22.5 miles from the dam to where it empties into the lake..average depth of 7ft to 10ft except in dreged channel. There's lots of reeds and scattered cabbage, huge flats and sheer drops along the channel. The upper 1/3 is mostly gravel and sand, the rest is sand and some muck. Slow to barely noticable current in most of the river. Lots of off channel water..back bays and flats.
Where would you look this time of year and what presentation might work best?

Howdy! Fished a river flowage system(as I usually do) this past weekend, and got 7 muskies in the same type of areas. This time of year(and that can change if we get some more cold weather and shorter days soon), I look for any remaining green weeds right near channel bends(the points of inside turns seem best for me). These areas with the weeds, rocks, coupled with slack water, can really concentrate shiners, walleyes, suckers, and other forage as they think about making their slight fall trek upriver. I also like the narrow river areas up from the main flowage, before it dunmps in. Later in fall, dam areas, and deeper holes and shorelines with harder bottom and sharper breaks work well. I like bump and rise(suicks were good this past weekend) jerks, big spinners, surface baits(if the surface temps are on the rise during the day, even if its from 49 to 52 for example), and suckers. Later on I do better with Reef Hawgs, weighted, and bigger cranks to get down a little further.

You mentioned reeds: seems those indian summer days can push smallies and skies into those areas.

Thanks! There's lots of water to look at and it all looks like Muskie heaven. I know there's scattered walleyes thruout the river, but the small ones are starting to group up in the upper 1/3. Maybe I'll try up there Sunday.

hi. when im fishing the river systems i like to look for defined points that offer a slack water break and preferably have some sort of cover to them. i also concentrate on bends with slow eddys and some structre also parts of the main channel where you will have some under cut shore line these tend to be deeper holes and ive noticed the fish will stack up here. also look for down timber these are key holding areas as well even if you find logs stacked up in the middle of it the fish will hold tight to the downward side of this stuff. also look for feeder creeks or streams that flow in these tend to be other holding areas and the temps will flucuate here some times bringing in colder or warmer water. these little feeder systems are good areas to work when the walleyes and smallies and suckers start to spawn they tend to use these more than the main system. also look for sharp breaks and flats where deep and shallow water connect. this time of year i like to fish close to where the river dumps into the main lake or river depending on where your at.
goodluck.
