| Can't speak to the Nacl, but have a toro s 61 and love it. Great all around reel for almost every application. Use mine mostly for 10's, 8's, suicks, wtd's, mid size rubber and cranks. Great price too. You won't regret buying one (or three). |

Location: St. Lawrence River | Toro S hands down. And I've spent plenty of time on both. More comfortable, great casting distance it's a good middle of the road option. It's a real sharp looking reel to boot. |

| I have both, and like them both. The NaCl's spool is wider and smaller in diameter, the S's is taller and narrower. Overall, they have the same width, but the NaCl sits lower on the rod. NaCl weighs 11 oz. and the S is almost 14 oz. NaCl is better for small hands. S has a disengaging levelwind, NaCl's is synchronized. Get slightly longer casts with S, I think. NaCl has a bait clicker; S doesn't. NaCl has a centrifugal cast control and no magnetic (Hall effect) brake. This makes it better for tossing things like bucktails which might cause a "professional overrun" at the beginning of a cast in windy conditions. S has magnetic brake, and no centrifugal cast control making it perhaps better for controlling the overruns at the end of a cast. NaCl is 31 ipt; S is 29 ipt. Not a huge difference. Haven't had any probs with either, yet, 2+ seasons with NaCl and 1+ with the S. Both are very good reels. I toss mag dawgs with the S, and jerkbaits (Suick's, etc) with the NaCl. |

I was in the same situation as you less than a month ago and I decided to go wit the nacl 60 and I am extremely happy with my decision. I have used both and they are both solid reels but to me the nacl just felt more durable and built to last. The nacl is a fantastic reel for palming, the side of the reel is just a little bigger than my bass reels while the toro S was quite bigger and came higher off the rod. As far as performance I didn't notice a huge difference so my decision was mostly based on comfort, and the nacl was just much more comfortable. I'll see if I can post a pic of my nacl next to a browning reel I have and a curado 200 so you can see the size difference. You will se that the nacl is much wider and bigger but the side demensions (how you palm it) is almost the same, or at least very close to a bass reel. Hope this helps and I'll try to get the pics up. |

Location: St. Lawrence River | The height difference in hand is nothing to be concerned about. You will be comfortable with an S in about 3 casts... what I like is the S frame is narrower so your non-cranking hand (the hand holding the reel) is actually closer to the rod. In my OPINION, this makes the S more comfortable for those who struggle with hand fatigue from palming a reel.. Factor in the price, and the Toro S 60 is a winner to me.

The S is a far more durable build, look up the original threads with the breakdown of the gearing, etc. It also palms very nicely. |

Location: Apparently where the Muskie aren't | Sworral, I'm not say that it is not a durable reel by any means, it's made by abu and abu always makes tanks. I'm just say that to me the nacl felt more solid. I'm sure everybody has a different opinion and I can completely respect that. For me the nacl felt better but by no means is the S a sub par reel. If I didn't find the great deal I did for the nacl I would probably have a S myself. And according to the specs of the reel the S is a more durable reel. Just to me, the nacl felt better in my hands, could be because I have small hands and I was able to get a better grip on it. |

| The toro s will outlive the nacl, according to abu, a lot of the issiues on the older revo toros such as the thumbar where fixed in the newer toro s and beast.
Also keep in minde that the nacl is not produced anymore, so replacement parts might eventualy become hard to finde.
And personaly, i finde the shape of the toro s/beast to be much more comftable than the shape of the nacl |

Location: Waukee, IA | I prefer the NaCl. I burned up a Toro S that I use for my all purpose reel where as my NaCl has been my big blades/big bait reel for two years with no issues. The Toro S is a backlash machine as well. Just my $.02 |

Location: Hayward, WI | I have 2 NACL's, an S, and a Beast. I like all of them. I will say that when I first bought a NACL, I felt like I couldn't get it to backlash with a double 10 even if I tried, where I've had to fiddle more with my S and Beast, and I still get the occasional backlash with them if casting a lightweight 10 into the wind. Not bad, they just seem to need a little more braking, and concentration.
I used the S and Beast almost exclusively last year. When I picked up a NACL it sounded louder and didn't feel as smooth. Whether that's from my NACL's being used fairly hard for a few years or if the new reels are inherently smoother I'm not sure. I seem to remember thinking the NACL's were very smooth when I first got them.
Either way, I'd say both the NACL and S reels are smooth, cast well, comfortable to fish, and so far have given me no problems at all.
