Anyone have any good tips on fishing milfoil? Trying a lake with virtually no rocks and tons of milfoil this weekend. Will be fishing early am til the afternoon. Trying to come up with a gameplan.

My ideas of attack now are trolling the points with weedbeds, and jigging to pockets with tigertubes. Any other tips? Thanks

This time of year fish the edges, or fish over the top with high running baits. Topwater if there isn't allot of milf floating on top. Trolling can be tough if there's allot of milf floating, but give it a try if nothing else is working. What lake?

I use creatures on the edges successfully. Use a diamond head jig, and grip it with a pair of pliers at the jig head, using another pair of pliers, bend the hook back away from the jig enough to make a 'slip rig' style bend. Put the creature on the bend, superglue it, and bury the hook tip in the plastic, just ready to stick out. Superline is a good thing for a heavy hookset to free the hook. You now have a totally weedless creature that will rip through the stuff pretty well if you take it easy.

I've been having success short line trolling spinners right in the carpet and/or casting sluggos in the pockets. I set the drag light for the troll as the bite has been very subtle and wiggle your sluggos through the weeds. You'll probably catch a few bonus bass with the sluggos, I move along because I don't find bass and muskies cohabitating. Good luck

Sworrall, would you happen to have a picture you could post showing your diamond jig head and soft creture setup you describe. Been trying to figure out your suggested presentation but am drawing a blank. I don't know too much about jigging. Still trying to figure the basics out.

Definitely fish the edges before "going in" with bulgers parallel to edge
to take advantage of the "wall" your fishing. Don't be afraid to step it up
a notch and cover a lot of water as when you find one their is usually others identifying with that structure if it's big enough. That is where
I usually concentrate my time. Find the big beds close to deep water and
your golden. If there's cribs at your diposal, bomb them! After trying this
and not much action then move off the edges to the next break and work the open water as not many folks have the patience to do this often enough to be effective. These fish are very catchable and willing to co-operate
most of the time. Stay on the bigger structures and put your time in.
