Subject: best size boat for madison chain

Hi,
Im new to the board. Im returning to muskie fishing after a couple of years
of living out west. Im moving to Madison this fall and want to pick up a boat asap, because the best deal always seem to be around that time of the year. So my question is what is a good size boat and motor for that area would a sixteen be to small. Thanks for any advice and I'm sure I'll meet some of you on the water.
Best Regards
Pete

monona and mendota are big water and can get rough if the wind starts a kicking but a good stable 16 footer would be a good start

With all that great bigger water at your disposal in the State, and the fact that the Mad Town Chain can work up pretty good, I would lok at a 17.5 foot model. Lots of them out there in both aluminum and glass.

I fish the Mad. chain 95% of the time. Big water indeed. I had a Tuffy esox mag for a few years and it was an awesome boat for those 200-800 acre lakes. Unfortunately, at 32-3600 acres the mag was out gunned when trying to hold in 3-4 footers. I was on mendota on Monday fishing the wind blown side...3.5 footers..Not a 16 foot boat type of water. Now I run a Tuffy 1760 tiller and it is awesome on the big water. You can get by with a 16 footer, but if you could swing getting something bigger I would.

Also, we have a VERY good Muskies Inc chapter here in Madison. Check us out when you get in town! http://www.capitalcitymuskiesinc.org/
