Posts: 938 Location: NeverNever Lake | LOL....Todd, as far back as I can member, which aint too far, I threw the thing once and didn't know how to work a glider. The only thing I used back then was a Bagley B-Flat and it didn't work like that. I just threw er in the cement pond and yes it does float.

Posts: 2061 Location: Belgium | Raze, those baits cost 40$ each over here and the quality and consistency isn't all that. How about if I make you one of those myself?

Location: Athens, Ohio | Crane Baits - from the muskies, Inc. W.VA. Chapter 09 webpage: Made By Bill and Sharon Crane Bill Crane (Friendly, WV) is truly a legend in the Musky fishing world. Aside from being an excellent fisherman, his lures are some of the most copied and most recognizable to fisherman. The production of these baits actually had a humble beginning. Bill had always enjoyed modifying baits and in the early years was fond of cutting straight baits in half to make them jointed. He experimented on other factory baits available at the time by changing things such as the weighting or the lips to make them run to his liking. He really began producing his own baits from scratch around 1976. In that year, he bought J.C. Dicks bait Company (another WV Baitmaker). His first baits (all crankbaits) became what we all know today as the “100 Series.” His process was refined that year on these baits to where they could be produced fairly quickly and consistently. Around 1978 or 1979, Bill began making his “200 Series.” Bill concedes that this bait was more difficult for him to produce as much more pre production effort was required to get the proper lip and weight balance. Another bait line, the “300 Series” was added a few years later. This line of baits also took a long time to satisfy Bill’s stringent pre-production requirements. Bill still works many hours today producing these three main lines of baits, while his wife Sharon paints them all by hand. Bill estimates that Sharon has painted many thousands of his baits over the years. The two largest documented fish caught on Crane Baits are pretty impressive. The most recent of these is Howard Wagner’s huge Allegheny River fish caught in January of 2002. It was on every major message board dealing with muskies. The fish measured 54.5 inches and weight estimates place the fish at 53.41 lbs. The other fish is equally as impressive when one considers it is a line class world record. This fish was caught by Bob Lemay. It measured 54.5 inches and weighed in at 50 lbs. Based on these two catches, it would be an understatement to say Crane Baits have a pretty impressive resume. Aside from these two huge fish, hundreds if not thousands of others have been brought to the boat on Crane Baits over the years. Crane baits are offered in a large variety of colors, but Bill says the 200 series in Brown/Orange (Color 04), Green Perch w/Yellow Belly (Color 02) Green Perch w/ White Belly (Color 01) are his largest sellers. For more information on the different production baits, please see the Crane Spec Sheet. Bill believes there are a variety of ways to fish his baits. Some anglers “burn” them in while others twitch them. Trollers have also been successful using the deeper running versions. Bill and Sharon are also continually working on a jerkbait as time allows so watch for it at your local tackle shop. Posts: 938 Location: NeverNever Lake | LOL Spongery, 3/8" aircraft cable w/bungee cord leader. Bill also sold an optional "wing kit" that slides in to the slots on the sides. With the wings installed, this bait can actually be trolled at speeds up to 40 knots. I think he calls it the "Whooping Crane". Divani, sounds like a deal. I guess you know what bait I'm talkin bout. I think it was done-up in a perch pattern. I'll hang on to this till you get it made, then contact me and I'll send it yer way.

Posts: 938 Location: NeverNever Lake | Good readin Mikie, I met a good friend of Bills out at the lake a few weeks back. He showed me some of Bill's latest creations, a jointed crank and a surface bait that looked awesome. I need to get a few new baits so I can lower the occupancy in my boat by another person. I'm down to 3 now!

Posts: 48 Location: Wisconsin | Pirating, in my opinion, is always the best thing to do to waste time during those mid-day hot swells when the fish aren't biting.. Target jet skiers and pontoon party boats, rather than your fellow fisherman! Edited by Tallywhacker 7/16/2003 6:45 AM
