| I'm just beginning to save my pennies to get a new rod for next year and I am looking to go bigger. I have a 8'6" Fenwick predator that I really like but want to get another 12"-18". I am not interested in TI rods at all. I have an XL and XXL that will be getting replaced as I never use them anymore.
Are there any factory rods (again, other than TI) that come in a longer length that are worth it, or should I just splurge and go custom?
I will be pairing with a Tranx HG and throw 10's primarily most of the year. I will throw Mag size rubber and occasional pounders. I'll probably find an XXL for the big rubber, so really looking for something that can handle 10's and mag rubber. Prefer a shortish and thin-ish butt section (like the fenwick) and always palm the reel.
I think I covered all the bases there so if anyone has recommendations I'd be more than willing to learn. The Tranx was my big purchase this year, and I am looking to combine it with something else to become the ultimate fishing machine. I'll likely add my toro S to the fenwick until I decide to pull the trigger on the PG tranx. |

Location: Minnesota | There are some nice rods out there. I like custom rods yes they cost more but i can have it built my way . From handle length overall length what kind of guides to use color thread what kind of foregrip . I have Thorn Bros rod's Lonnie all ways maks me my dream rods. For blades Thorn Bros Predator best rod for blades 9'8" 2 inches off the tip team that with your Tranx and you will have a well balanced rod |

| I just got the Chaos tackle 9'6" Shock and Awe split grip telescoping. Awesome rod for big baits and the price is right I'm from what I saw on this site and others chaos stands behind the rods and the customer service is great. I'm throwing a Lexa 400 with hundred pound braid. Was using a 9-foot TI ride rated to 36 ounces telescoping but not split grip huge difference in the flex with the ride on the chaos it's amazing loads up totally different on Pounders and big baits felt like I was always alive in Bates with the ti super stiff |

| You might want to check out the Abu Garcia Fantasista Beast rods. They offer a 9'1" and a 10'1" that should be able to handle what you're describing. I can't remember just offhand but I think the handle was along similar lines as the Fenwick. Anyhow here's a link to some descriptive info. Of course I want you to buy a TI rod BUT you can also go to a builder and ask them to lengthen our a current rod blank you like. Take a 9' SC blank and have them extend the butt of it for you. Then you can keep the action but just longer... Jawbreaker is a great builder and has all brands or rod blanks and he can also get others if he does not have them.

| Go with a Thorne Bros Predator, you won't be disappointed. If you're going to get a custom rod, get it on a top end blank. |

| I'm not sure what your aversion to TI rods is, but I would definitely consider them. You will be hard pressed to find better customer service and the 10'6" xxh does exactly what you're looking to do and a lot more... I throw everything from double 8's to super models, pounders and regular dawgs... It's also a great rod for top waters like fat bastards up to the big cannonballs. |

| Yeah two different animals in my opinion. For the money the TI is a great rod don't get me wrong ,i have a few. Its not even close to the same blank as my Predator when it comes to durability, but the price does reflect that. Its cost effective and tough to find a lighter rod for that kind of money. |

I have a TB predator 9'6" XH. It basically does everything from 8's to 10's to Pounders. Can't go wrong. Get the Tranx reel seat on it. I have full syncork, but I would not recommend it. A syncork forgrip and regular cork for the main handle would be perfect. Expensive but awesome! |

| Yeah i missed the aversion to TI rods part thanks. Predator pretty much your only choice in 9 foot six length in my mind,but for my dollar i prefer a 9 foot big nasty even to my 9 foot six predator. Predator too soft in the tip for boatside on big blades for my liking and the 9 foot nasty is a fantastic rubber rod. |

| If cost or storage is an issue I would recommend the 9'6 XXH chaos rod. The XH predator blank is awesome but if you're like me and live nowhere near MN then TB won't ship anything over 8'10". |

Good call... This is your best option... Shipping anything over 9' is $80+ with FedEx or UPS. |
