Just got back in country after a few mo overseas. I see that cabelas has an employee pricing sale. I know that the employee discount for Abu Garcia items is 20%. I plan to go there tomorrow and am considering buying a Beast. I was wondering which one would be recommended. Just looking to replace my Toro Winch for double-10s. Which Beast reel would be just as easy on reeling double-10s but faster.

The standard beast size 60 for easy reeling. the toro S is in the middle with 29 inches of pick up.

Beast 60 4.9:1 handles 10's just fine.... with a the paddle handle. I haven't tried the power handle as I see no need. For perspective, it replaced my tranx PG.

With that said, I think the Toro S 60 is an excellent alternative. I specifically wanted a slower gear ratio for slow rolling.

I have the beast HS. 6:2:1 and bulge 10's with the paddle handle. I was surprised how easy it was. Don't think you can go wrong with either beast my man.

The 6:2:1 is not designed or intended for pulling 10's. Go with the 4:9:1. The higher ratio reels will wear out faster pulling 10's.

I think I'm strong and I don't use my 6.2 for 10's. I use a 4.9

Ive got 2 Beasts. One in each gear ratio. Unless you have Popeye arms, the high speed Beast defiantly does not pull double tens "Easy". Its going to feel like your dragging in an anchor. Especially if you are going from a Winch. I use the 4.9:1 Beast for my big blades and it does a fine job.

To each his own. I am 6ft tall - 155lbs. So definitely not Popeye... If I throw 10's on my winch or my beast HS for a few hours to me the most fatigue comes from making big wide fast figure 8's not so much from reeling in the bait. That said if I had to throw 10's all day I would use the winch. The HS I found regardless of the bucktail size is awesome for fishing around or on top of heavy weed cover. A few quick cranks as you approach some barely submerged weeds or a small patch of Lilly pads and I can keep the bucktail almost weed free.

This. Pick up a jigging/unbalanced power handle for a Beast and put it on in the mddle position on a ToroS 60. More speed and 10's are easy, 8s/9s a breeze.

Appreciate all the info. I was figuring the same. I have the Toro Winch, Toro S 5.4, and Naci HS. I bought both high and low speed Tranx's last year so my son would leave my Toros alone. He has large hands figured he would like them. Guess not, he keeps using my Toros. So I am considering on putting both Tranx's up for sale for $400 ea. Excellent condition. Used 5-6 times lined with 80lb suffix 832. Going to pick up both versions of the Beast and give my winch and naci to my son. Or trade straight up for 2 new beast if they are out there. I have to take some pictures before I post them

The last few years my primary reels were a HS NACL and a toro winch. This year I bought both the HS and PG beasts. I didn't touch the old ones most of the year. There's nothing wrong with those reels, but I just love the beast series. They're so smooth...

On a side note, I also picked up the rocket for burning small blades and fast cranking topwater. The Rocket is a great reel as well for the right situation.

I also have the HS Beast 60 with 6.2 ratio. The jigging handle in the middle position makes 10's not bad at all. If trying to really smoke them back to the boat fast, you might be tired at the end of the day but I find it to be a good compromise of speed and resistance. I think it's easier than the 5.3 60 S with the stock power handle.

With my above post in mind, if you want easy reeling yet faster than the winch, the 4.9 would be faster and easy as pie to fish 10's. If not looking for max speed, the slower Beast would be a treat to fish all day.
