Posts: 351 Location: Vilas County, WI | I have never been to Vermilion and will make my first trip there in October for the Ramsell outing. I'll be stopping by Rollie and Helen's later this week for some items in preparation for the trip. Are there any highly recommended colors, presentations, etc I should ensure are in my arsenal? Does anyone troll? I cast 90% of the time but may troll for a change of pace. Also I found a thread from 2011 about the hazard buoys being pulled in late October. Are they typically still in place the 2nd week? We'll be there the 11th - 16th. Feel free to PM if you'd like. Thanks, Show Edited by TheShow 9/19/2016 10:47 PM

Location: MN | That time of year I'd be throwing pounders dawgs or dussas in black or Cisco pattern or weighted supermodels. Headlocks for trolling. Good luck

Posts: 386 | Don't be afraid to troll either. When I used to fish Vermillion more I caught a lot of fish trolling in mid October. Usually tried keeping the boat in 10ft. They always seemed to prefer 10" Jakes over anything else. Good luck!

Posts: 337 Location: Watersmeet, Michigan | Just got back Saturday after a week there. Musky action was very slow according to all the guides I talked with. Over the week I had just four follows and boated one fish in the mid-thirties. Although temps may have fallen a bit over the last couple days, the water was still 64° and those fish that were moving were going after smaller baits, #8 bucktails being the most effective. If you're hungry, the walleye bite was very slow, but the crappies are moving shallow and are getting pretty active. Good luck! Fr. K

Posts: 315 | I wouldn't be throwing strictly rubber at that time. Definitely throw 10s and 13s as well as some large crankbaits. That can be a tough time but make sure to split up what your fishing as in, weeds, high current areas, and rocks. Sometimes the West side is pumping fish out and somethimes the East side.

Posts: 351 Location: Vilas County, WI | I'll be coming from WI so I'll be traveling through Cook, then north on 24. Mapquest is telling me some of this may be unpaved roads? Any truth to that? I have a 2017 Lund Impact 1775 that's 1 week old... not looking forward to towing it down gravel already.
