hey guys,

I currently have a St Croix legend tournament big nasty paired with the Daiwa Lexa HD Power rod, great set up for blades (jrs and cowgirls). I find that I want a new set up for more speed when throwing showgirls and small bucktails. What do you guys think for rod length and power for that? Also, I also want another set up for throwing heavy rubber. Ive been struggling trying to figure out whether or not I should buy two more set ups or just settle on one more versatile rod. Ive been looking at the new Abu beast rods, 9'7 or 10'1 for the bigger set ups (have a connection to Abu thats why). Any thoughts or suggestions on set up, reels to pair with, or anything else?

St Croix Long Ranger would be my pick for a rod.

Sounds like you're looking for 2 set up's . Comes down to how much you want to spend. For show girl's i would go with a Thorn Bros predator heavy 9'8" team it up with a Tranx HG.
Big rubber Thorn Bros predator xheavy 9'8" team with a Tranx HG.

A more economical big rubbber setup that sacrifices little (if any) performance would be a 9' TI XXH with a Daiwa Saltist.

Yes, they are excellent rods. Actions are accurate and the rods perform very well. Have a rocket on one and Beasts on our others.

I have a heavy beast rod paired with a beast HS reel and love it. For a speed reel, take a look at the Revo Toro Rocket too. I have one of those and it's great. Also smaller than the Tranx. However, I would not want to pull big blades all day with it. It makes a great jerk bait reel for catching up the slack. I like to use it for fast cranking top water or smaller blades.

If you want to save a few bucks, try the Revo Toro S for small bucktails. Effortless and high speed without trying.
