Location: NeverNever Lake | Just got this in the mail. Won it on Ebay for 10.50 inc shipping. Anyone know how old it is and/or when they stopped making rounded bellys? I bought it to paint and clearcoat. I perfer round belly baits when casting into the wind. How is the action of this bait compared to flat belly Suicks? |

| Yes, that is an original Suick. Back when they first started making them, they took a little extra time and rounded the top, sides and belly. I have some originals that I still use. They put the new ones to shame. The old ones roll, they don't just chop their way back to the boat.
Now before you guys start squawking and tell me that you can get new Suicks to dance.....sure you can, with some tuning and putzing. I'm just saying that the old rounded ones will put the new ones to shame right out of the box. You won't get a new one to belly roll like the old ones.
I buy Suicks now and spend hours sanding them on the top,bottom and sides and repaint them. By taking the bulk off of them and making them not so square, you get a better bait.
What was the question???????????? Oh yeah, it is an original Suick.

Location: Belgium | yep, I've got two. I use one for fishing and it has a lot more action than the newer suicks. It's also not weighted and it is made from cedar wood whioch seems to be a bit denser than the pine that they use nowadays. |

Location: NeverNever Lake | Thanks guys, I just got off the phone with Suick Manufacturing Co. Steve Suick said that this bait could possibly be as old as 60 yrs and couldn't remember when they stopped rounding them off. I plan on sharpening the original hooks and throwing it before I decide to make any modifications; paint, flexcoat, hooks, split rings, ect. I sure hope this will be my vintage "goto" bait.

Location: Seymour, WI | I had an old Suick that I lost when a snakey little pike cut my leader a few years ago. That lures action was twice as good as the new ones because its action was both up and down, left and right and would wobble back and forth as it rose. As the lure would wobble on the rise, you could see the light reflecting off of the tail. Beaver, are you sanding the new suicks by hand or using a machine? Where is my best chance of buying an old one?
