Not very many people fish it. They are obviously in there but in low numbers and the spots are enormous so you have to cover a lot of water to find one. I have fished it without action.

I've never fished Big Winnie, but did fish Little Winnie once, lots of small pike. A friend fished it a year before and saw the biggest muskie of his life. Check out the size of the mounts in the resort there.

Well, if you are going there anyway you should give Winnie a good try. Otherwise, I think Cass, Leech and Bemidji offer better numbers with similar trophy potential.

I’ve never went out on the big lake for them but I’ve been fishing the cut foot sioux part of the lake for 15 years. My biggest out of there was 50 inches but I’ve raised plenty that looked bigger. I assure you that if and when you find the right spots on that lake you’ll see enough monsters that you won’t need to go to the typical Muskie waters. You’ll usually get some big pike and large mouth while out there as well. North Star and Spider Lake in Marcell offer some great opportunities for 48+, the biggest fish I’ve ever had on my line was on spider but lost her boat side, been chasing her for years now

The wife and I fished big and little Winnie for the first time on a long weekend a little over a month ago. Didn't raise any muskies on big Winnie, but the pike - of all sizes up to about 36" - kept us busy. She also caught a 20" plus largemouth on a bigger Rad dog. We were just getting into the walleyes on Cutfoot when mother nature forced us into retreat. Little Winnie was also a pike bonanza, though most were on the small side. A fun area to fish. Muskies didn't cooperate, but I would fish this area again.
