Posts: 638 Location: Bloomington, MN | Perrault,Long Legged Chain. I "think" these are further north. I just was at Clifff Lake....lots of the not-so elusive Muskellunge. I really do not know NW Ontario, previous trip was 1978. I've heard there are muskies in Red Lake. If you want a 50" in less than a week, skip Cliff. Does anyone persue the Rainy Lake (Redgut Bay) muskies anymorre? NE arm of Lake Suel is further north than the previous mentioned. Where is Little Vermillion, a titch north of Eagle?

Location: Contrarian Island | are you looking for a fishable population? there are quite a few lakes north of Lac Seul that have been known to have muskies or do have a very small population... as far as the northern most fishable population I'd suspect it is the NE area of Lac Seul, Pine Island/Birch Narrows area. Red Lake which is north of Lac Seul has a very small poplulation. (and connected lakes) I've fished Gullrock which is connected to Red...we were after walleyes and pike but heard a few stories of muskies. Edited by BNelson 8/19/2016 9:29 AM

Posts: 1767 Location: Lake Country, Wisconsin | Red Lake has them....raised one myself back in HS. Very rare though. Someone in my group once got a 30" There's also a lake right next to Red Lake, Flat Lake, and they are in there. I was never able to get on there as we were always a week early on the season opener. Aside from that, there may be a rogue specimen or 2 in Lake Winnipeg, as one was recently collected in the last few years Edited by Musky Brian 8/19/2016 9:31 AM

Posts: 63 | Clark A - 8/19/2016 4:01 AM Hey Clark A,Longlegged Lake holds some good Muskie. While working for the MNR in Kenora I had a chance to venture up that way.It is situated in the Pakwash Forest F.M.A. 502100.It is a long trip down a gravel logging road that splits off in numerous directions. From Kenora take the Reddit Road(HWY.658) north.Just before the town of Reddit take a left onto the English River Road(gravel) and just keep driving north until you come to a bridge at Separation Lakes(another good spot for big Muskie).Just before the bridge there is a Forest Fire Fighting base camp on the right that I used to work at when fight fires a long time ago.It may or may not still be active. Perrault,Long Legged Chain. When you cross the bridge stay to the right which is South Pakwash Road.Stay on this road heading north which will pass through Prospect Camp which is an old logging operations station.Stay on South Pakwash Road(nothing to do with travel direction) until the road comes to an end. if you take a left you will be on Iriam Road. Not to far down from there are some logging tote roads that lead to the lake but I can't guarantee what shape they are in for access.Might need a chainsaw to remove felled trees in the way.If you stayed on the Iriam Road it would eventually turn right to the northeast and bring you into Red Lake. If you turn right off of South Pakwash Road you will be on Longlegged Road which not to far down will cross over a narrows of Longlegged Lake. There are also some old tote roads before this that lead to the lake but gain I can't say what shape they will be in today. If you continued driving on the Longlegged Road it would start to turn southeast and hook up with Hwy.804 which would take you into Ear Falls. I have done these routes years ago working for the MNR and even back then it could get rough with a lot of surprises. We used to also do that route during hunting season as the Moose population was very high. These roads up until 2004 were used for hauling pulpwood to the paper mill in Kenora and were maintained regularly but I doubt if they are today.Once you get on the English River Road before Reddit there is nothing from that point on,...and I mean nothing,i.e..gas stations, stores and last I was up that way,no cell phone service so make doubly sure you are hauling enough gas, food, emergency supplies, spare tires, first aid, truck winch or come along, chainsaw etc.,in case something goes wrong.I've been in a couple jams up that way do to poor road conditions and found myself stuck for hours trying to get out of some Skidder tire ruts even with a 4x4,...which is must to have when driving those roads. Boat trailer may take a beating so make sure it is in top shape. Other inland lakes that hold good Muskie are,Cygnet,Separation,English River,Umfreville,Swan,Roughrock. All these lakes are good but getting to them can be a bit challenging.
