| Posts: 258 Location: Mayville, WI | I've got a 2009 F75 tlr (75 hp tiller) and lately it's been trimming up on its own. First did it about two weeks ago on a trip when moored in the water. I came out and it was trimmed all the way up. Put it down then fine the rest of the trip and drive home. Put it in the garage & fine for a day, then I see it went all the way up again - about 5 days after the first time. Trim it back down and all's good for another 2 days, then it saw it was up again. Both the switch on the handle & one on the motor work in both directions. I cannot get it to repeat it with me there. Not sure where to start - thinking bad relay? Anyone have any experience with trim issues like this? sc | ||

| Posts: 279 Location: Central Wisconsin | After reading this a little more closely, it is likely a short somewhere. My trim issue was only when I was actually using it, not that random. Edited by Riverrat351 8/6/2016 9:33 AM | ||

| Posts: 410 Location: With my son on the water | I had the EXACT same issue and we changed out all the relays and the problem continued. We continued to trouble shoot, we disconnected the trim switch on the motor and the problem continued. We then hit the trim switch on the handle with a hair dryer and covered it with a plastic bag and the problem went away. We later changed out the trim switch on the handle. I later learned that the seal on trim switches can go and allow moisture in which causes the problem you are explaining. We both got lucky our rigs didn't burn up as the trim pump would keep running. Now I have installed a master shutoff switch on my battery too so everything is shutoff (the trim too) when I am not near the boat which really helps me sleep better. | ||

| Posts: 50 | I have a 60hp tiller 2010 that was doing this on and off for 2 summers. This would happen even when I was in the boat fishing. Never could quite figure out what was causing this. Along with this, my starting battery would go dead after fishing 3 or 4 days. Thought I had a bad battery but after all this happening it turned out that there was a short on the power trim motor. Even though my motor was just out of warranty, Yamaha stood behind it and now all is good. | ||

| Posts: 258 Location: Mayville, WI | Thanks for all the replies guys, much appreciated! Got it narrowed down to the trim switch on the handle being the culprit. sc | ||

| Posts: 897 | Mine did the same thing a few years ago, except when it would happen the trim motor would continue running until I hit the down button on the motor. Turned out to be the trim switch on the motor. Good luck. | ||
