| Is a planer board worth using when you are only allowed one line per person? I have always thrown out the lure and hung on tight and trolled away? What is the advantage to using a board? |

| 1) Can get bait closer to reefs, walls, etc .. you can actually run a jagged rock wall by reeling in and letting line out while keeping the boat 20 yards away.
2) Control depth, almost like a bobber... example running headlocks with 15' of line will control run depth keep bait 6-8' down and out of the prop wash
3) Many times prop wash trolling works but sometimes getting the bait away from boat , makes a difference

Location: oswego, il | In that situation, just getting the bait away from the boat. Sometimes fish may be more willing to eat a bait away as opposed to a prop wash bait. You can also run into situations where you might not want to put your boat but you do a bait. |

| Personally, I think they are a pain in the butt. If you are fishing solo and have one line out, now you have to fight the fish, get to the board, unclip it, then continue fighting the fish. That can be a little tough.
But, as stated above, there are times you may really want one. And frankly, times you won't. Pick one up and experiment with it. While I think they can be a pain, there are certainly times where they are a great tool to have around. |

| I don't troll, but from what trollers tell me here on LSC the majority of their bigger fish come out away from the boat |

| I troll a lot but usually only use boards after dark to keep big baits higher in the water column. I usually run 13" grandmas or 12" Headlock's 10-20' behind the board. Other than that, I forget about the boards and run baits straight back. |
