Posts: 133 | I have a bright red nitro and fish a pretty clear body of water. Fish 10 to 15 feet from the boat seem to spot me pretty easy it seems. I was thinking that it may be the boat colour. It may just that they see me but sure is frustrating when a big girl comes rolling in and I don't even get a shot to make her eat . Anyone have an opion I'd love to hear it.

Posts: 866 Location: NE Ohio | clear water is a killer, try low light or nigh time. always have done my best when the water has a little color to it. if you can see them, they can see you. good luck.

Posts: 8863 | Clear water can be a good guy -- I'd fish dark days, mornings, evenings, and as deep as possible the rest of the time. Truth be told, if your boat scares them away, you were never going to catch them to begin with. When they want to eat? They're gonna eat.

Posts: 243 Location: South Central Wisconsin | Pretty tough if they see the boat. I always had dark bottom boats, whether or not it matters, I'm not sure. The one think you can do is wear clothes that match the sky, grays, light blues, ect... I think more often than not they see the fisherman. Bright clothing and the movement against the sky shows up well to them. Make sense?

Posts: 133 | Yes I'm dedicated to each cast and am normally %100 ready when a fish comes in. and feel like I don't makeamy sudden movements. I even try to squat down a little bit of If I see the fish further out. I have caught lots at the boat. But those fish that seem to spook for no reason drive me nuts. Trolling motor, seeing me and the boat I believe are the three options. And if it is the bright candy apple red that's sticking out and costing me fish.... Then the nitro is getting painted black. Man I put way to much time thinking about these dam fish!!!!

Posts: 167 Location: West Central WI | Since you asked for an opinion, consider that if you were down in the clear water during the day. Looking up, you'd see light sky so in my opinion, a black boat would stand out. Why not white or light blue for your boat bottom? The same philosophy is used with military aircraft. They are mostly light gray or blue-gray so they don't stand out in the sky. At night, color really doesn't matter.

Posts: 400 Location: Metro | I honestly don't think it is going to be the color of the boat. I fish on lake Minnetonka and we all know how clear that lake has gotten. I still have had most of my fish come off figure 8s. Clear lakes are honestly just tougher and we all know that. I fished out of an alummacraft and was never able to land a fish because when I would go into my figure 8 the boat would make noises and send vibrations through the water. I don't actually know if that was the reason but I remember being frustrated with my boat situation because of it. Honestly you are probably overthinking a little bit when it comes to boat color and what you are wearing. Like everyone including myself says, "if they want to eat they are going to eat".

Posts: 1209 | Not a color thing. There is something else going on. I know when I stopped saying "there's one" my 8 success went up. They see my teeth? I have a red glitter nitro, maybe the glitter but not the color. I know when I'm swimming a white hull is harder to see than a black. And red is more grey in black and white vision. It's in your head shake it off.

Posts: 133 | I used to drink heavily and got myself in a whole lot of #*#*. Did a stretch and came out a new man. Haven't drank in 7 years. Musky fishing keeps my mind occupied. So I'm always thinking of my next move to become a better fisherman. Even if they are stupid thoughts.

Posts: 393 | I have an amazing 80s baby blue boat and they do it to me too. But there have been others that have smashed lures inches from the boat with reckless abandon. I actually had one this opener run into the boat and still turn around take another swipe at my lure, the rest of my 8 suffered as I was having a good chuckle at that little guys expense. The turning away deal is just something they do when they're not quite peeed off enough yet IMO.

Posts: 134 | My boat is wrapped camo, they cant see me coming, run into the boat all the time, never spooked a fish with the wrap. LOL had several turn away on Sunday at Tonka, even had one leave teeth marks in a dawg but still left after going in the 8.
