Posts: 2686 Location: Hayward, WI | Hi all, Heading to LOTW on August 13. Have an uncle that now has time to go, but doesn't have a passport. Seems it took over a month to get my passport a few years ago. Does anybody know of an option that would get him a passport in less than 3 weeks? Or are there any options besides a passport that would be quicker to get that would allow entry to Canada and back to the US? FYI - he has a clean record. Tucker

Posts: 1040 | I haven't gone through this process in a while, but I thought that there was an "expedite" option when getting a passport. I want to say that the turn around time could be as little as a week if you pay extra for that. Best bet is to go to the post office and ask about that.

| My boss is getting passports for his kids this week. He said the expedited option was still around 6 weeks due to the fact that 10 years ago is when countries changed requiring people have passports instead of just ID's. All the people that got passports back then are renewing their passports this year creating a big backlog. Not direct experience but this is what I was told yesterday. Found this after I typed the above. https://travel.state.gov/content/passports/en/passports/services/exp... Edited by wisskie 7/21/2016 2:02 PM | |||

I just got my 2 year old and 10 year old passports, and it took under 2 weeks with just the normal service. This was a few weeks ago.

Posts: 14 | We just had a guy go short notice with no passport. Just a birth certificate and license and he had no problem both ways. I think the U.S was a little mad but they let him back in. That was the 8th - 15th this month Edited by diawaguy 7/21/2016 2:08 PM

Call the border crossing first to be sure but you should be fine.

Posts: 925 | My Norma LOTW boat partners brings his two kids to Canada every year for the past 3 years. Birth Certs all is what's needed. He called the borders to double check a few years ago and never had an issue. Have another buddy that goes to LOTW every year with just his license and birth cert. I don't think the US can deny entry to a US citizen if they have proof regardless if you have a passport or not.
