Location: So. Illinois | I am playing with the idea of purchasing a side-imaging unit. I currently have standard depth finders (down imaging) at both the console and bow.
Looking for recommendations on best location to use the side-imaging capability. Should I mount it at my console for slow trolling and investigating an area to fhelp define where I want to fish or should I put in on the bow to use while casting? I'd appreciate thoughts from anyone who would like to weigh in.

| id put it on your console. side imaging isn't very clear when you are travelling at casting speeds. it is better at or just above trolling speeds. at least that's my experience. also, if you have HB's, you can link them together and have SI on your bow unit in the future if you'd like. |

Location: US | I have mine on the console and use it primarily for putting down way points to mark areas i want to fish at 3-5mph. I don't think it would be as useful mounted on the bow when trying to fish. |

Agree with this.
I also have found it excellent for finding structure. I can't say I have used it to find fish though. |

| Dash for sure. Once you have it mastered it can work on the bow at slow speeds but try to match screen speed to mph. Doug vahnberg on YouTube is an awesome resource for hummnbird tips. And if anyone wants to see fish they should search out a carp infested lake. Can't miss seeing what fish are when there all 15#+. As you gain confidence you will see what you have been missing.

Location: Grafton, WI | I have my Garmin side imaging on the trolling motor. I don't spend much time at the console unless at speed, so I put it where I'd use it, no regrets, works great - once you understand how to read it at various speeds, you're good to go.

Location: davis,IL | I have birds at both locations. A helix 10 on the console and a helix 9 at the bow, both are si units. I use the si regularly on the console unit and occasionally on the bow. The one on bow gets used more after I've spotted something on the console and want to move in and examine something with the troller without over running the spot. So to put it simply...its invaluable at the console...and a handy feature at times in the bow. |

| Agreed, essential at the console. More of a luxury at the bow. If you set Chart Speed to 1, you still can get a decent look at structure as you are casting and mark anything of interest. I do tend to mark a lot of suspended baitfish when running SI at my 'casting' speed up in the bow. |
