Posts: 251 | I use cal's universal drag and reel grease. I use the "light" one. it is purple. Great stuff, people who really know reels use it often. I like it because it works well everywhere grease is appropriate including the drag discs. For oil I will use different stuff, I feel most anything out there will do well for a musky reel. If I have nice bearings in a smaller the reel and really want it to fly then I will use lightening lube High Speed Oil.

Posts: 668 Location: mercer wi | I use abu's oil. I don't grease my reels. I take reels in every year or other year, depending on use. It a thin line of over greasing.

Posts: 78 | T3clay - 6/28/2016 7:56 PM WD40 Never use WD40 for a lube. It is a lube remover (so good for cleaning) but provides very poor lubrication itself. It basically strips the last bit of old lube off of parts and leaves them unprotected. *ps and never use it on plastic parts.

Im guessing the WD40 was a joke I just hope nobody reads that and thinks Huh maybe ill just use WD40 and ruins their gear. Internet forums can be dangerous.
