Posts: 153 | Angle Road into the Northwest Angle (LOTW) has improved somewhat since this spring. The Good = Story's Storage and Storage (formerly D&S) is now offering boat detailing, including washing boats. I would call them prior to arriving at the Angle as the place is crazy busy. 218-442-4201 The Bad = it's the Angle Road, conditions are always changing. The Ugly = The Canadians spread a bunch new gravel on their side. And U.S has in places as well. Edited by Dan Klis 6/21/2016 6:49 PM

Posts: 925 | Oh boy the good ole days of taking that road. My trailer looks as if it's been sand blasted and I always had rock tamers or mud flaps to help protect.

Posts: 239 | The Road is The Road...not much different than what I have seen for the past 18 summers...it is gravel not black top so it gets bad when wet and after a busy weekend...it will not kill your boat or trailer... Dan and I have had a good number of discussions about the road and once in great while we agree (LOL)...One can always boat in form Morison, as does Muskie Brian... Posts: 153 | Never spoke to a fishing reel....and if this is Ray you are the only one at the Angle that think the road is fine. Residents had a meeting with the County Road Supervisor on Tuesday, wish I was there because it was a heated discussion. I know what the road does to my truck and I don't pull my boat down it, very often. Boating from Morson is an option, but the weather can really screw you out in the LT. I have done that trip enough to know how bad it can get out there.

Posts: 110 Location: Albertville, Minnesota | Ha....the road. Been going up there now for so long that its just another hour to the trip....driving so slow that 1,000 giant horseflys hang with ya. But great news for the boat detailing! Will be on that bad boy next Wed. How's the fishing been and water clarity? Seems every time I look at a weather radar, they are getting rain. Chris

Posts: 174 | I have fished Sabaskong and Northwest Angle for many years. I have not seen the Angle out produce Sabaskong. Both about equal IMHO. I choose mostly to go to Sabaskong lately, some of it due to the road. I have been way up north in Canada and expect roads like that, not necessarily here. Oh well, for those that love the Angle, and I do also, it might keep the number of fishermen down for the rest of you. I would think the local resort owners at Baystore, Sunset Cove, Bill Sandy's, etc would put a little pressure on those that take care of road. Maybe they are full all the time and it does not bother them?? I do know a few that boat in from Morson. Edited by oly67 6/25/2016 8:14 AM

Against the advice of just about the entire world, I did the boat in from Morson thing. I most certainly had very favorable conditions there and back. With the conditions being right for it in mind.... 1) a nice long boat ride beats that road, not a single rock mark yet.....as opposed to a 1000 on the last 2... 2) not being one to just drive by fishy spots, we had to toss some casts on the journey. There seems to be solid fishing out there in no man's land..(Jkarls) Attachments ---------------- image.jpeg (33KB - 574 downloads)

Posts: 925 | How many miles would it be from Morson to let's say Sandy's by boat if one did decide to skip the dirt road?

Posts: 153 | It's about 55 miles from my dock to Hanson's Bay in Morson. Sandy's would be a little closer.

Posts: 331 Location: Stevens Point, Wisconsin | The only problem you could run into is a three day stretch of 35 mph winds! Good luck making that drive across the open area's. If you are on a schedule you might be stuck at the Angle a couple days! I had a buddy boat in from Warroad and the trip to the Angle was fine but the trip home took him 5 hours and a couple years off his life.

Posts: 135 | The degree to which conditions impact you are a dependent on your boat size/type. There's a reason folks who live up there on the islands often run bigger boats with full canopies - they can get where and when they need to go. I've made the run by boat from Morson to the Angle and back a couple times. It takes me just about exactly 1 hour from Oak Island to Hanson Bay cruising at 30mph when conditions were good. It took 2 hours one time when dealing with a "brisk" south-southwest wind coming through Little Traverse that lead me to duck into Sabaskosing and then up through the Tug/Johnston Passage route to come at Oak from the north channel along Falcon. Be smart, watch the forecast, and know your alternate routes...
