  | so I have a 6501 C3 that was getting a little caspy on the cast last weekend. I want to oil/grease it up but not sure what I shold use / what whe process is. should I wash it out with soap and water to get any grime out or just add oil/grease?

what oil or grease should I use?

what areas need to be greased and oiled?

thanks for the help. I have taken some reels apart in the past and oiled them but im curious if there is a better way to do it than I have in the past. |

Location: MN | I usually wash with soap and water to get the sludge out. Then apply grease to spots with higher pressure contact (gears, antireverse bearing, clutch arm/sideplate) and oil everywhere else. I've been using Abu Garcia oil and grease but mostly because someone gave some to me several years ago and it hasn't run out - seems to work fine.

There are some tutorials online like here http://www.catfishedge.com/clean-abu-garcia-ambassadeur/ that show step by step.

I brought a C3 to an expo and watched the Abu technicians do it - only thing I wasn't getting quite right was the spool bearing. No real suprises. I think it's mostly common sense - clean out the gunk and lubricate moving parts. |

Location: Vilas County, WI | I use small fine brushes similar to what I tear down/clean my guns with. A mild solution will suffice like stated above.

I've currently use reel butter grease and the abu oil. Abu has great schematics available plus a host of information and videos out there on the web/youtube.

When you tear the reel down just set the parts aside, in order, piece by piece. Then reassemble in reverse order with fresh lube and oil. |
