What do you guys use for a leader when jig fishing soft plastics? I like to use big jigs and 6-8" paddle tail or big grubs for big pike/muskie. I am wondering what kind of leader you guys use? Should I get some 130lb mono or fluoro and tie my own?

Thanks

8" of light solid wire (haywire twist with your hands) is what I use targeting big pike

I've had good luck with heavy flourocarbon leaders.

Back in the days when I was doing a lot of creature fishing I used Mason hard line and Tyler leader. Today it would be Tyger leader or flourocarbon.

My rule of thumb is that if I think the fish is going to engulf the lure, or head shot it, use wire. For your jigs? Wire all the way.

I've used 180 lb fluoro for over 10 yrs and have had zero issues/bite offs etc. Use wire or heavy fluoro you'll be fine.

We have done well on jigs. Use Solid wire leader with good results.
