| I have loved my NaCal 60 HS for throwing nearly everything for the past 2 seasons but I blow it up a couple times a season and send it to Abu to be rebuilt and I use my TE while I wait for it to return. I picked up the high speed Beast this winter and finally gave it a work out today. Compared to my 6:2 NaCL which brings in blades with ease I found the Beast to be very hard to reel and it gave me quite the workout. Why would the Beast be so much harder to reel if it has the same gearing? Anyone have any input or feel similar with theirs? I know the lower geared version would be better for just reeling them in but I also like to burn smaller blades and didnt want to sacrifice the speed. Im also not a big fan of the disengaging level wind - maybe it just takes some getting used to. Thx in advance! |

| It's about inches per turn. Ipt is higher on beast. Because of the taller narrower spool |

Location: MN | I am actually surprised you felt the HS NACL was comfortable for big blades. I've always thought the 5.4 was a bit borderline |

| They have same gear ratio (6.2) but the Beast HS has a more IPT (34) compared to the NaCL HS (30.9). The Beast has bigger gears and longer handle options. Something is Fishy if the Beast reels thougher. Are you testing them on the same rod? Are you comparing the strength to move the lure X distance/at X speed or to turn the handle X number of times? You should be comparing distance of the lure. You may be comfortable reeling at a certain speed with regards to your hand, and at that speed the Beast feels thougher. That would be my guess, you probably have a speed at which you like to reel/feels natural and that would match up better with a lower geared/IPT reel. |
