Location: In the Weeds | I have 2 Squirkos. One of them works great. Glides side to side very well and I have no trouble with. The other one goes up left down right and everything else. It does not go side to side and hardly swings at all. Turns maybe 25 degrees rather than 40 or 45 like I want. I'm using a stealth tackle 174 lb wire leader with 1 swivel and no snap. Just direct to split ring. Any suggestions on what else to do? |

Location: Yahara River Chain | Keep using it, it doesnt need turning. The Squirkos shines when they deviate from just side to side action and go up and down as well. That action get those fish excited.
The one that just works side to side is the one you need to work on. |

| ^^^Agreed. I have 2. 1 works great with any cadence. The other works great with a slow cadence only, but works. I don't like going that slow except at night, or when I get a chance to fish in the fall. |

Location: north central wisconsin | Depending on when made, the batch, materials, some are different. With that said, the variability was more true years ago. They're very consistent today in terms of weighting. With that said, it is possible that your lure doesn't have enough tail weight for what you're trying to get out of it. The weight is in the tail and easy enough to change or add to. If it is an older one, you can screw another weight in. If newer, the easiest is to drill small hole just in front of tail, and tape in a 3/16 oz egg. If it works, glue it. If not, drill and drop a 1/4 in. I'd remove rear hook and swap to a 4x heavy with an extra split ring or two first that is truly all you need most of the time. Bill is making heavier weighed regular sized squirkos now as well, using the weight from the magnum. Drop me an email and I can further explain. |

| I have a tough time with Squirkos too. I can make the little Squirko dance but not the standard size. Same goes for Reef Hawgs for me. I don't have any problems with Mantas, Phantoms or Hell Hounds though so I just fish with those. |

Mantas, Phantoms, and Hellhounds are all designed as side to side lures. Squirkos and Reef Hawgs are not. If you have any 6" reef hawgs or standard sized squirkos, I can trade one or more of the first three. Drop a PM. |

Location: Contrarian Island | as others have noted squirkos go up down and all around (the good ones)... the leader is important...I have found about a 10" leader works best... no stay lock, or bb swivel...just solid rings to split ring.... slack line when you snap it is key... hard short snaps w slack it will jump around... rod is important too..I like an 8'er... good luck! |
