I'm trying to build some bucktails but it seems like to me when I test them the blades don't go out perpendicular to much. The blades stay close to the shaft. I was wondering what I'm doing wrong. I tried different blades, clevis, and different distances from the skirt. thoughts?

thanks Justin

It is probably the type of blades you are running, the more a blade is cupped the farther out they flair. This will cause them to pull harder as well. Take a pair of needle nose pliers and bend the edge down just a little(it does not take much) and see if it helps.

It depends on blade types and thicknesses. Actually the blades the run the farthest away from the shafts I have found are flat thin #8 colorado bladesthat spin almost 90 degrees from the shafts. I do not recommend that style of a #8 as they are hard to get started. Willow blades will run much closers to the shaft. Heavy blades will spin slower and closer to the shaft.

What blade types and thicknesses were you using?

thanks for all the help from everyone. I cupped the blades a little more and that seemed to work.

thanks Justin
