Posts: 185 Location: Mendota Heights, MN | I have the Navionics Premium North chip and the Lakemaster ProMap Minnesota chip. yesterday, i was out fishing White Bear and since I usually use the Navionics chip I decided to give the lakemaster a try. I really like the zoom capability on the lakemaster better, as well as the 3' increments, as opposed to the 1' on the navionics(to much visual info for me), however, it seemed that the Lakemaster was not nearly as accurate. The chip map said I was in 10' of water while the locators indicated 20+. Anyone else have this experience? I am using the latest Lowrance Global map 5500C with WAAS. Steve

Posts: 1438 | I don't have either yet due to a backorder. But, you have to remember, neither will be spot on perfect. I've heard that some CAN be as accurate as 3' under perfect conditions. Other times they could be off by 50'. If you were within 50 feet of 10' water, I'd say that's pretty good. Then figure in that some of these GPS units use government sattelites for a position fix...with heightened security after the London bombings, maybe those satellites aren't available. Just my opinion. Scott

Posts: 63 | I've used Navionics chips up to this year, inwhich I bought Lakemaster Chips for Wisconsin & Minn. So far in Southern Wisconsin, the Lakemaster Chips have been right on!. With the Navionics on one lake I was driving about thirty feet off the lake at one point. Next week I'll be up north with them, curious to see how good the lakemaster ones are up there!

Posts: 2112 Location: The Sportsman, home, or out on the water | I have not had experience with either, However.......... My first brush with GPS was in it's infancy (Operation Desert Storm, thank you very much). My second was on sunday with K-bob (had a nice unit in his boat). Today, I borrowed my buddy's hand held for my trip this weekend. Back in the day, We read off of 3 sattelites. On a 6.2 klick move (about ten miles), The old GPS's would take you on a "snake dance", that would take you 3 miles out of the way, on a good move. Even with way points, All of the sudden, it would tell you to make a hard right (or left). We most certainly could have been driving through an un-cleared mine field. With my experience on Sunday with K-bob, he had said, "we are coming up on the spot where you raised that fish on your Bucktail", I was suprised as to how accurate it was, because I pick out stuff. And tonight, while farting around with the loaner, I was amazed at how it would track 5 paces down the driveway! My point is, GPS has been probably been the most developed thing in your arsenal. Just be happy it works as well as it does.
